[Music] Local FLAC Playback

A member of spotify team said to separate the FLAC idea post, into FLAC local playback and FLAC streaming. Someone else can create a FLAC streaming post, as I'm only after local playback. The original post with the 2 ideas in one post is here.

WHY WE NEED SPOTIFY TO PLAY OUR FLAC COLLECTION
Spotify already plays ALAC, all be it with stability problems, but what we really need is local FLAC playback because FLAC is the defacto standard for lossless audio encoding. 7digital has recently started selling FLAC yet spotify can't play them. Why not???

The most commercially successful band on the planet (The Beatles), have released official remastered versions of all albums in 24bitFLAC format on a usb device.

Numerous bands have sold albums in FLAC format through their websites. FLAC is the defacto standard for lossless encoding, so please start supporting local playback of FLAC.

Another idea that is important to me is fixing the appalling "set the same volume level for all tracks", which doesn't take into account the subtle volume transients of an album that audio engineers spend hours working on. The following volume normalization method retains the intended volume differences as part of the album.

I would also like to play local FLAC files on Spotify.

I'd love to be able to play FLACs. I buy a lot of music, and this is the format I always choose when I have the option (I usually do for the kind of music I like). If Spotify played FLACs, it would become my complete music solution.

Hifi is becoming more affordable, hifi brands are producing affordable headphones, and car hifi is rapidly evolving as well. Perfect time for Spotify to embrace Flac and allow people to hear music as it was intended.

Spotify should definitely implement the feature to play your local flac files - it's the only reason I have to use another program when listening to music.

Spotify has been a game changer for me - in the same way Sky+ has been - and for that I am very grateful. However, I am sorry to say that lack of FLAC/WAV support for local files now has me looking at Qobus. FLAC is certainly gaining momentum as a format and I suspect will become the dominant format in a few years time.

Surely adding a FLAC codec to play local files wouldn't involve too much coding?

I would really like to see support for lossless playback of local files. My lossless collection is ALAC and I really cannot agree that FLAC is superior. Lossless is lossless!?
