[Search] Bring back Advanced Search

Up until recently, users were able to refine their search by using advanced options which are, sadly, no longer available.

I'm a musicologist, and small features such as being able to search by record label are quite important for me, as it should be for anyone who is not just a passive consumer of music! If you also believe that we need this feature back, support this thread.

We're happy to confirm that Advanced Search is now available on Mobile and Desktop. 

For example, searching by 'year:', or 'label:'.

HOW ON EARTH does removing "label:" search option improve experience of users??!!

What kind of lie it is? How dare you to tell such blatant thing?

 

What am I even paying for, this is really getting annoying for anyone interested in music, and this is what Damon Krukowski in his Pitchfork article exactly meant. You totally strip music out of its context, which is record labels in this case.

I know, that for your main income source artists record label means nothing, but indie record labels which I am listening to are something more, and there's certain quality and distinctive style assigned to each of them. 

 

This "improvement" really hit my nerves.

Hmm, I've watched this entire thread grow from the start (I still get emails about every response) and I love how there has been nothing from the team at Spotify. Again, this shouldn't be marked a new idea if it already existed a few months ago...

Hey noashspotify have you looked at the Reddit post I commented? I can't even search my own playlist on my phone (free). Spotify is ruining themselves.

Well, Spotify has two major sources of income: paid subscribers and artists who pay for advertisement. Removing exploratory features (e.g., search by label) encourages the users to explore the ads which they see (on the homepage or elsewhere) instead of ignoring them. Subscribers aren't likely to quit because of this small change, however artists who pay become satisfied because they're songs get played—meaning, they are likely to pay more, leading other artists to do the same; this in turn leads to an increase in revenue for both the paying artist and Spotify. Therefore, by removing advanced search, Spotify both increases and stabalises its income.

 

Spotify is just a money-making corporation, and like any other company, they are only after increasing their capital. Along the way, they might make the experience more enjoyable for their customers, but that's not their actual goal. Customer satisfaction is desirable as long as it is in alignment with generating profit.

Indeed, this must be what they are up to, and they don't risk that much, cause we are probably going to stick to their product anyways. They shove to your face all the loud pop circus, still the tailored recommendation under discover is not that bad... so why shouldn't we?

 

Cause maybe music is culture and culture includes choose your own way, not reling on someone else's algorytm, right? Meh...

I've found it diffiuclt to search for what I'm looking for lately. Advanced search tools woul be very helpful.

I've created extensive playlists finding new artists who have a different take on classic songs using this feature.  I routinely narrow my searches by filtering on genre or artist.  The usefulness of this feature cannot be understated.  Why REMOVE a feature that is so useful??

If this is the case, then turn it on for paid subscribers. 

 

After the quality of the music catalog,  the power and ease of music discovery is the most important feature of a music streaming service.  Apple music already boasts a larger catalog.   Spotify is the king of music discovery.  If Spotify is going to succeed, it must retain that advantage. Taking away features like advanced search is NOT in Spotify's long-term commercial interests

Advance search (specially by label and year) is an absolutely essential feature for many people,

above all for those interested in classical music and jazz.

Removing this feature for paying customers is a huge mistake.

Removing it without even informing said customers is a disgrace.

Adding this removal to previous dispointements like removing the lyrics option may very well be the step to far.

I am considering cancellation of this service, which I have for whole family, and moving away to some serious competitor.

I used to love spotify, but unfortunately they are taking very wrong turns. They necessarily will have

to listen to their customers once their pockets start to thin out.
