Way to prevent duplicates in playlists.

I have big playlists, and would like a built in way to prevent duplicates from occuring in my playlists.  This could be an option to prevent, or select/hide duplicates.

Update 2015-03-17

Hello everyone. Spotify here. With the latest release of the Desktop app, this feature is now available across Desktop, iOS and Android. Thanks for the feedback. Enjoy!

Or at least add a 'tick' in front of the playlist name when we are trying to add a track to it, so that we know it is already in it.

This isn't completely related, but somewhat. I've started a topic "Compare playlists and show differences": https://community.spotify.com/t5/Spotify-Ideas/Compare-Playlists-and-show-differences/idi-p/386306

The addition of this feature may be able to wrap in functionality to show "duplicate" entires in a playlist as well. Give the topic a look and add kudos and comments if you have suggestions.

  • Highly support this idea.
  •
  • It would be so simple to add.
  •
  • I don't care too much if the duplicate is a copy of 1 of spotify's copies, because several songs on spotify have many copies. (for example there are many copies of songs on different albums or remasters)
  •
  • But I only care I don't add the EXACT same song ID identification to the same playlist twice. (sometimes I want the slightly different copies on the song on the same playlist) This should be so easy to program it's amazing how old this suggestion is.
  •
  • You can work on detecting harder to spot duplicates... but preventing copies on 1 playlist with the exact same spotify URL ID should be easy peasy.
  •
  • It doesn't even need to be an immediate duplicate search! I would even be happy with a Right Click option that say "Remove recent duplicates", that would search for dupes only on new songs added to my PL since my last dupe search. This doesn't need to be done by the server, all the processing can be done client side.
  •
  • I really need this to help clean up playlists, it's sad this is suggestion is so old.

Good idea!

Would solve my issue.

I often add albums of the same genre. Especially with various artist albums you sometimes get double or even triple times the same track.

Annoying when you listen using shuffle and the same track keeps coming back :-S

[Remove Duplicates] ---> *Click!* ---> ??? ---> Profit. 🙂

Ok, so Google just came out with their streaming service. I want to know if you are going to offer us a discounted monthly rate in order to match what they are offering. Also, I have seen a lot of people complain about the loss of the "What's New" tab. Google has one and it is important enough for me to leave over that alone. Come on Spotify. I love you guys and I don't want our relationship to end. I feel like I give in this relationship and you take without giving back. Please respond to this post.

Please! Make this happen already. I'm a playlist maniac and have over a hundred playlists. It's really hard and takes so much time cleaning up in all of these when I have to check manually each song and wich playlist they're in and if they're already in a playlist or not.

A friendly reminder to Spotify staff (some of whom weren't even working for Spotify when this idea was first raised, in fact I'd like to bet some of them were still in school!)....

This idea was first raised in the old GetSatisfaction forum on 12th October, 2008!!! ( http://gsfn.us/t/2n883 ) where it had the status "Planned".

It was moved over to the new community here in February 2012 (like most of the other top ideas that still haven't been implemented either), and hasn't had an update from anyone at Spotify since October 2012.

I have yet to see any real solutions here. I have been a premium member for a very long time. So easyit is for me to keep lining someones pockets with my ten bucks a month when it means keeping my precious playlist on my phone commercial free and available anywhere without the hassle of as many syncing and storage issues that the past seemed to have.. software will become somewhat more efficient but we will always have "problems" but it is sad to see soooo many good ideas being ignored.. this is how the "next best thing" puts a company like Spotify under.. they are to lazy and semirich to see the disaster. Just like digital copy for bluray/dvd the music industry is gonna yank all licensing rights from all these hacks even Google since gods knows they are trying way to hard to run the whole show everywhere. Then you will eventually be able to go to a site that is run by the record labels or artists themselves.. you will be able to by a one time lifetime digital copy for very cheap, along with it will come an original LP/cd/or mp3 or all three as well as higher quality formats and bitrates.. you will "own" perspective rights to add that track "loaned to you" to any compatible player.. there will still be mad pirating and eventually it will be some other website or player or streamer or app that has the next best customer complaint blog/area that will have the same type of folks like us asking the no one on the othe end of the line questions about how to remove duplicates. Madness. New cup new cup new cup move down move down move down...
