Way to prevent duplicates in playlists.

I have big playlists, and would like a built in way to prevent duplicates from occuring in my playlists.  This could be an option to prevent, or select/hide duplicates.

Update 2015-03-17

Hello everyone. Spotify here. With the latest release of the Desktop app, this feature is now available across Desktop, iOS and Android. Thanks for the feedback. Enjoy!

great feature

Would be good to have a Mixer to mix songs like D.J

The online spotify player asked me this once and now it no longer asks me about skipping the duplicate or not. Is there an option to make this feature pop back up on the web-player?

Another cool option that could be implemented is a "remove duplicates" feature in case there happen to be duplicates within a playlist.

Spotify now has a feature where if you accidently pick a song that is in a certain playlist it will tell you can either press skip duplicate or add anyway

The approach this uses to de-duplicate tracks seems flawed. I believe this uses the Spotify URI to detect duplicates? However, it seems that these URIs can change, and I have plenty occurrences of this. I am aware that different releases of the same track may have different URIs (and separately, I wish these could be detected as duplicates), but that is not the case here. It seems that an album can be updated (or replaced?), and when that happens the album gets a new URI, and each track gets a new URI. Only the newer (updated) album is searchable on Spotify, but both new and old URIs are still valid. But for all intents and purposes, these are the exact same tracks. I understand that old URIs should not go away (since people might post links), but it seems like these URIs should not be the unique identifiers of the tracks, especially since it defeats the purpose of the duplicate track detection feature.

Spotify Staff... will you please listen to your customers? As others have mentioned, your duplicate prevention techniques are flawed. Here are 3 no brainer ommissions to this feature:

1) The current method of only knowing if a song is in a playlist by trying to add the song to a playlist, is very inconvenient and unnecessarily time consuming. Especially when I try to add a song to multiple playlists. Wouldn't it make more sense to simply have a way to let a user know what playlists a song is already in?? This would save a great deal of time not having to tediously try to add a track to playlists that it is already in... especially when we have multiple playlists we are trying to add the track to. It's mind boggling that this is not common sense to the Spotify staff. Do you not even use your own product? It seems if you did, you'd also find this lack of a feature annoying. It took long enough just to get a duplicate song feature in Spotify, so I'm not holding my breath with this capability. Especially since you don't seem to read these hundreds of complaints.

2) Another reason your "Duplicate Track" feature is lacking is the fact that the same tracks are sometimes on many albums by an artist. For example, the same song that's on a standard album is also going to be on a greatest hits album. So if I forget that I had already added a song from a standard album to a playlist, I'm going to re-add the song from the greatest hits album. The "Duplicate Track" feature doesn't work in this case. Why?! Also, as another user had pointed out... it seems Spotify uses URL's to track songs for duplicate content. Yet sometimes albums are removed from Spotify and re-added at a later point or changed. This creates a new URL. This screws with the ability to track duplicate titles.

3) There needs to be a way to add a song to multiple playlist at once. I often like to add the same track to multiple playlists. The current method is very tedious. Why the heck is there still not a way to add a track to multiple playlists at once? This is dumb. When a user wants to add a song to a playlist, there could be a checkbox next to each playlist, which would allow the user to simply click on the playlists they want to add the track to.

I get instances of the exact same song by the exact same artist added to playlists but no duplicate track warning. Just got one, in fact. Only difference is the copyright of the song. Then you get instances of album tracks and singles, too.

Wouldn't have thought it would be too difficult to verify that the artist name and title are the same so the duplicate track warning shows.

this function is ok. it would be also good when before adding a song to a playlist, there would be a sign left from the playlists where this song is already integrated

Can I save my playlist with music to a flashdrive so I can play my music on my Bose sound system?
