Way to prevent duplicates in playlists.

I have big playlists, and would like a built in way to prevent duplicates from occuring in my playlists.  This could be an option to prevent, or select/hide duplicates.

Update 2015-03-17

Hello everyone. Spotify here. With the latest release of the Desktop app, this feature is now available across Desktop, iOS and Android. Thanks for the feedback. Enjoy!

Why not just displaying a warning window:

"This song is already in the list. Are you sure you want to add it again?: YES / NO / Never ask again"

For different versions I understand it's difficult, but when it's exactly the same link...

It's such an easy thing to develop guys!!! I'd do it myself if I had the code Smiley Wink

If you want to make it even better there should be an option in the preferences (just detecting song name and artist name with a String.contains() or the C++ equivalent):

Show warning when adding different versions of the same song.

Then I'd love you forever!! Smiley Tongue

I've created a work-around to this problem that may help. (Forgive me if this is already described on this thread somewhere in the middle or elsewhere. I figure it can't hurt to have it up more than once so more people might see it, right?) Anyway, the way I got to this problem was that I got a new internal HDD so I added all my music back onto my machine from the external where I had it. this made Spotify re-upload it. because I'd had it on an internal previously and then moved to an external (long story) the tracks had previously been synced with spotify. So when I re-added to my internal today, Spotfiy automagically re-synced and voila, I have a bunch of dupes in my Local Files list on Spotify. Some of the instances were unplayable as they were linked to the file when it was originally on my Internal and some were fine because it was from today's re-sync.... which got me thinking. I went into the Local Files list on Spotify, hit Command+F to search just that list and typed in the artist that I knew would have the biggest issue of dupes (again, long story why one artist would have more problems than others. Suffice it to say I'm a bit obsessed with live recordings from a band). There on the right is a column called "Added." Clicked on it to sort the list that way. Found the tracks all added months and months ago. Select the top one of those, scroll to the end of the list of tracks added on that same day/at that same time. Hold Shift, and select that last one. Now you should have all the songs added at the same time highlighted. Now click on the button at the top of the list called "Album" to re-sort the list. Now you should see a list with alternating highlighted/non-highlighted tracks. Scan through and make sure that every track highlighted is duplicated by another track of the same name, on the same album with the same length and that all your highlights were added at the same time. When you're satisfied, put the cursor over one of the highlighted tracks, control+click (or right click on non Mac) choose delete and voila! dupes gone, others remain in place. Anyway, that's one way of doing it. Hope it helps. I agree that Spotify should have a way of making sure dupe tracks are not added in the first place, but till that happens....

But... I would like for the player to tell you it's a duplicate when you try to add it, independently from finding duplicates afterwards.

Give a subtle warning when you try to enter a double song in a playlist.

This is the third most voted suggestion already. http://community.spotify.com/t5/Spotify-Ideas/Way-to-prevent-duplicates-in-playlists/idi-p/253.

Please change status of this idea.

I'd just like to say that I think it is outrageous that no staff members have even given a FEEDBACK to the third most voted idea.

I was going to propose this idea! Perhaps making it an option to delete songs in your Spotify Library(which will delete them on your playlists as wel). If I listen to my library and I want to favorite a song, I use the filter and type the song title in. Sometimes when I do this I find like 3 or 4 of the same songs(I have a huge library) and I'd love to be able to just delete from there.

... really? This needs more votes and conversation? It's the 1st most popular unplanned idea. What else would you like to converse about?
