[Your Music] Add LOCAL FILES to Your Music

First of, I'm a huge fan of the new layout.

But as the title says I'd like to add my own beloved local files to the "Your Music". I don't see why this shouldn't be a possibilty. This way I don't need to have one master playlist, I can just have all the music I like under "Your Music -> Songs".

Also, as suggested earlier, changing the font size could be usable to many people.

Hey folks,

Thanks for coming to the Spotify Idea Exchange and voting to make this happen.

We're happy to announce that the option to add Local Files to your Liked Songs playlist is now available on both the mobile and desktop apps!

Once again, thanks for helping us make Spotify better, by participating here on the Community.

I have 8811 songs in my local library - sorted neatly in Winamp in legit DIY categories - starting from Genre, ending with Publisher. Would love to see similar functionality in Spotify - My Music. Because the implementation as it is now, lacks even such a basic feature as Genre. And local files, all 8k of them, are treated just as an endless playlist, which is not cool.

Problem I face daily since I switched from Google Play to Spotify:

1) Suppose I would love to listen to Silent Hill 2 soundtrack. Have ripped my CD to mp3 @320 eons ago;

2) Spotify hasn't this in it's catalog, so I made a playlist of my local files and uploaded them to my Android device. But only 8408 were picked up! Where's the other 400? Corresponds roughly to my FLAC file count - so spotify isn't picking them up. Great;

3) I'm an album guy. Love to listen to artist intention, its mix from A-Z. All the fillers, all secret songs after silence, everything. So the track order matters;

4) When I search for "Silent Hill 2 Original Soundtracks", Spotify presents just an alphabetical list of Downloaded songs - no albums, no artists, no nothing - just a useless alphabetic list (to me).

Solution would be to treat local files the same as Your Music is treated - with nice list of artists, albums, etc. That would really help. Especially if all the downloaded music - from Spotify catalog and from my local files would show up there all in one place. Marked to tell the source, probably. THAT would be super awesome and I could finally have some real use out of that 100GB playlist I uploaded from my PC to Android via Spotify app.

Because in its current implementation I have no solid use out of those 100GB of music on my 128GB MicroSD card - as those files are unreadable by other apps and Spotify aren't treating them nicely, and majority could be streamed from nice Artist - Album listing anyway.

That, imho, really is holding me back in adapting spotify as my central audio hub.

For now it's like comparing a solid power tool (my Winamp ML) to a kids toy (the way Spotify treats my local files). See attached files.

Regards!

really wish we had the option of this

Sure would be great. Right now - have to use other players/services to
listen to tracks not on catalogue, but in my SD/PC.

Im thinking about dumping spotify since i cant play my local mp3s on the device in spotify. Why? I own them.

Well, you can add your files via playlist downloads but it isn't what's
required.

And exactly my sentiments. One should at least be able to point Spotify to
my local files on phone, and play them as any other track, as any other
player does. Including Google Play Music.

It's probably due to some archaic and unsolved copyright issue. Or complete
lack of understanding of what features are needed where.

Spotify is THIS CLOSE for being the only stop to centralised music
consumption. But not until his is solved.

I would like to add my vote for this enhancement.  My "local file" has close to 2,000 songs (and growing) and it is mystifying to me that I the only way I can add them to a playlist is to move them one at a time.  If Spotify would allow for adding the entire local file to a playlist then I wouldn't need to have both Plex and Spotify to listen to all my music.

Why this hasn't happend already is beyond me....Literally every other music player does this.

I guess its your way to force us to use the radio...but that is a very anti-consumer mindset.

Sorry to say that, but handling such an item as "known, but ignored" is not a good handling of paying customers. I was coming from Google Play Music to Spotify because of my kids, but meanwhile I regret this step.All my local files (ca.8000 mp3s) in GPM were shown in My Music, without any problems or limitations. In Spotify you need to import them via a playlist in a folder. I will never understand this strategy to again download my files even if they reside on a SD card in my mobile. And they count as downloads and I could not download/connect all my files because I got the message that I need to delete files to be able to proceed. What an incredible joke. Blocked without any new streaming file selected...

Spotify has finally been added to my country. I have been waiting for years for this, and was so excited to get stuck into it when I realised that "Local Files" is completely divorced from the rest of your Spotify experience. What a joke.

Apple music does this seemlessly.

In fact there is a way...give up on Spotify and use Google Music, much much better. their customer support really cares about you and they dont just screw your family plan out of the blue.
