I am going to erase my account of spotify and never use it again. Whose idea was it to make the lyrics of song a premium feature?? I mean, what is next, making changing the volume premium too? making playlists?? Come on.

@Mitre226644 all of which is fine, that's how businesses work. but there are things they can cut that aren't an accessibility feature (and one which is freely obtained elsewhere online; with spotify, it's really just a matter of convenience to have it within the app/site). now that i've found a fix that gets me lyrics from genius.com IN the spotify page (i only use the browser version of the site), and my adblockers are still catching everything, i have no reason to ever need or want premium (which is good, because i'm too poor to have a second frivolous $13/month expense). at this point for me it's really just that they didn't communicate this change at ALL, and it IS an accessibility matter for a large number of people. spotify absolutely deserves the number of users who have jumped ship for apple or youtube over this matter.

You’re entitled to your opinion and that’s legit I agree the communication could be better.

A limit for displaying the lyrics ???? SPOTIFY !!! Pay the lyric provider for more API requests! Shame on you!

Killet

Premium-only for lyrics makes sense. Yes, you can google the lyrics.

HOWERVER - Spotify has implemented a legitimate improvement to simply googling lyrics. It highlights them as the song goes on.

The feature is a little more advanced than just pasting the lyrics in

@Killet it is, but when musixmatch (which markets itself as the world's largest collection of lyrics, which is absolutely hilarious) doesn't have lyrics for half the things i check, while genius.com DOES, it's honestly of little use. fine, make the live scrolling part of premium, but let free users (who i assume are probably the majority of users on spotify) see regular lyrics. to further refine my analogy, it's like if you went in a store and they charged you money to use their bathroom. if you can get the same thing elsewhere for free, why on earth would you put up with it? i'm content with things now, because i have a userscript that calls lyrics from genius in my spotify tab, and i haven't found anything yet that it doesn't have lyrics for. but. spotify still made a poor choice with this.

I just, why?

Everyone needed the lyrics feature, to understand and to listen what the song is saying. And Spotify, just slam the premium feature on the lyrics?

That's like, giving the greedy Spotify for just lyrics.

Why is this? And how? Who's idea was this?

Guys and Gals! If y'all still use spotify now that they have done this plz plz plz use the web version and install a ad blocker on your device/web browser! Do not give them the satisfaction of getting paid by ads! WE MUST MAKE THEM PAY FOR MAKING LYRICS A PREMIUM FEATURE! (I have tested this and it works and blocks all of the ads when I listen to songs)

MoonFry

please dont make people pay just to look at lyrics.. its annoying and my friends agree, i like looking at the lyrics and some people cant afford to buy premium

I am a deaf person and wanted to highlight the fact of the accessibility of existing song lyrics on Spotify. Specifically, limitations related to the subscription have been introduced so that if you do not subscribe, the song lyrics can no longer be viewed. This represents concrete discrimination for deaf or deaf people as they can only understand by reading the lyrics as well as having the known hearing difficulties for listening to music. In fact, able-bodied people are able to listen to and understand the lyrics of the songs and there is no need for a premium subscription, while deaf people are forced to read the lyrics and try to follow the music to understand everything, they should necessarily subscribe. A solution could be to reserve a specific subsidized pass for deaf people or other methods in which there is no discrimination
