I have a problem with this too; so do certain people who need lyrics.

Spotfiy, I've stopped using your app and I recommend everyone else does too.

I need the lyrics page so I can rock, rocking is a stim. I feel uncomfortable in the dark and the app times out if I don't have lyrics up, I cannot use spotify without the lyrics page. And I REFUSE to. Deaf people have spoken out about lyrics too; I recommend this video; Spotify's Monthly Limit on Lyrics Is Ableist (youtube.com) Because it is ableist, I'm hearing but ND and I NEED the lyrics page, for now on music I have switched to youtube; 1, Youtube stays up, it's better. 2; You can just get adblock on youtube and enjoy adfree music. EASY. I hate this update, and **bleep** yes anywhere I can I'm gonna talk about this and leave 1 star on EVERYTHING I can see about spotify. There is no reason for this, no reason to lock off lyrics. It's much more serious than spotify thinks it is.

i swear its so frusttrating i switched to apple music.

i doubt most people will see this but i've found a solution to two problems here (but only if you're using the browser interface)! i found a user script that calls up lyrics from genius.com on the spotify page, which both gets you song lyrics outside of the free user limitations AND gets you lyrics consistently (the service spotify uses only has lyrics for some songs). it doesn't have the auto-sync, but tbh i prefer having lyrics up alongside my playlist instead of taking up that whole section of the screen. there are also apk files out there to help with this problem, and similar fixes for the desktop app. message me if you want links; i'm hesitant to just directly link things right here, even though i doubt anyone from spotify looks at these posts.

I hate this so much- I struggle to process auditory things frequently and often I need to look at lyrics to understand the song. To such an extent with the songs that didn’t have lyrics in the app I’d google them! Which make the access to lyrics both a connivence and accessibility issue to me!

I'm so done. I'm switching to yt music. I don't even know why I'm still using spotify when yt music is obviously better. No ads, no flipping pay wall behind lyrics, better queue system, the lyrics actually work. The reason I switched to spotify is bc it had more songs and artists, better sound quality, and it was popular. But this is ridiculous.

My Question or Issue

why of all this put a damn limit on lyrics like is Spotify just trying to make everything miserable for people who don’t pay them? Like why do they need a MONTHLY lyric limit what’s next a daily listening limit on Spotify for people who use it free?

Seriii3342

for business I kind of get it but it’s unfair to those who need accessibility features like this and to those don’t need accessibility features simple Google it.

Spotify posted positive 2023 q4 and 2024 q1 earnings. They grew their subscription base, their paid subscribers, which was the biggest factors.

That said, they also laid off about 1/5 of their staff, had two price hikes, and remain (though this isn’t necessarily a reflection of stability) over $1b in debt. So they’ve had a good run over the last 6 months when it comes to their bottom line, but in my opinion this is a reaction to the demands of their shareholders since they’ve historically been unprofitable and there was likely an ultimatum of sorts.

All of this appears irrelevant in the eyes of dissatisfied free subscribers especially when it comes to the lyrics issue. I think that Spotify could have done a better job at being transparent about this and anticipating the backlash especially amongst those hard of hearing. Comments about legalities are ignorable in my opinion as I’m sure that Spotify has more knowledge than the users on this matter- not trying to be offensive but that’s why they’re paid lots of money- to protect the company.

As a side note, I think we can anticipate a lot of change with Spotify’s subscription options in the future. They now have more content to offer than ever, and I think they’re going to monetize it more intentionally than just inserting more ads on free subs and cutting off audiobook hours monthly, etc. They, unlike their primary competitors in Apple, Amazon, and Google (YouTube), don’t have any other services currently other than those related to content, and they’ve spent billions attempting (and succeeding in my view) to be the best source of content. I think they’re primed to be inventive and charge what they deserve for it. This is just a prediction.

Happy trails, folks.
