A way to disable mixing between only certain songs in playlists

Hello, everybody!

So, I just got the new Mix feature this morning and I am loving it, but I have one complaint, and that is that having it on adds transitions between each and every song, which is fine in some cases, but in some of my playlists, I put songs in specific orders because they already have transitions between them (i.e., COZY to ALIEN SUPERSTAR by Beyoncé) and this feature forces me to add another transition between the two, which ruins the artist’s intended transition.

So, I would like to suggest an option to remove/add transitions between songs when “Mix” is on, like a space in between the songs in “Edit” with “Add Transition” or “Remove Transition”

Thanks for reading!

Yes. I need this.

And also on that same topic, I would love to have more flexibility to move the tracks to more specific instances.

For example:

Here the tracks overlap. So I would like to be able to move this tracks in a way that i can chose exactly where it ends/starts, without those 2 seconds of overlap.

This would be useful for some tracks like that have a 2nd part that i don’t always want to listen. Or that have a start/end that ruins a certain mix.

The Mix option is great, but some songs would naturally transition into others without needing to overlap. Unfortunately, the Mix function forces overlap on every transition, which can be a bit annoying. This could easily be solved by simply adding a “Don’t overlap” (or “Don’t Mix”) option for each transition.

By the way, I don’t use the Mix function for DJing—I just enjoy creating playlists with smooth transitions, since I think it really adds to the listening experience.

The new mix feature is great, but there is one glaring issue: You are forced to have transitions between all songs in the mixed playlist. But i don't always want to have transitions between songs. For example, some songs already have transitions between them, which are ruined by the mix feature.

You already have the option of choosing between "automatic" and "custom" for the individual transitions. Why not add the third option of simply removing the transition?

  • For example I have a playlist that I use the new mix feature on and there are some songs that I'd like to be played normal. So I think it would be cool to be able to do that.

Yes, and there should also be the inverse where you can choose one pair to transition between without mixing the rest. I have a party playlist that I've already curated for each song to go well into the next one, but I have one transition that I want to mix where one song samples the other ("Feel This Moment" to "Take on Me") and want to be able to do that without the other songs all overlapping awkwardly.

Please make it happen. I haven’t used the mix feature that much because of this. 😞

I agree completely. Sometimes the natural transition between tracks is already perfect, and I don't want it overlapped in any way. This is the case for many of my playlists where I've already painstakingly chosen the order based on the natural flow between tracks.

Having the new mix and custom transitions options is AMAZING but I really need to be able to use it sparingly and very intentionally - not being forced to use it for every transition that doesn't need it in my label's curated playlists.

Absolutely agree. Love that we have the new “Mix” feature but some songs are placed in tracklist because of their natural transitions. There should be a function to either “remove” the transition where you feel necessary, or in the custom settings for each transition there should be an option for “none” across the board in each category.

I am happy to see the mix feature, but I feel like basics in transitioning were left behind. Not only should you be able to choose no transition but you should also be able to transition with beats of silence- meaning longer rests between songs to create impact for next the next track. It’s nice to have fade ins and overlays and bass drops- but sometimes all you need is either no transition at all, or just a longer rest of silence between songs.

Yup 100% required for this feature to be usable. Add the ability to have no transition and let us have more flexibility about where we can place the starts and ends of songs in the transition.

This needs to be fixed weeks ago.

The mix feature is great, but it absolutely ruins the transitions between many songs, such as songs that were already designed to play seamlessly back to back together, and songs that start IMMEDIATELY with no lead time.. the Mix feature FORCES you to say least have a couple seconds overlap and you can't slide the waveforms end to end.. they always snap back to the edge of the damn editing box. Not sure what that design choice was all about but that limitation absolutely needs to be removed. We should be able to slide the waveforms apart as much as we want - even so far as to ADD additional silence between tracks that was not already there.

It's a big oversight.. it totally kneecaps this new feature. Sure, mix works great with 80%+ of your songs but then there's a handful of songs that absolutely sound like trash when they get cut off or you miss the opening note of a song because you were forced to overlap with the end of the previous song..

There needs to be way more control over that waveform box. And there needs to be a way to disable the mix feature between songs on a Mix playlist and when you disable the mix transition it should default to the regular Spotify crossfade setting that you already selected for general play.
