Ability to turn off Autoplay

Primary: Universal autoplay setting

I want a way to indefinitely disable all forms of autoplay.

That's it. Just a set-and-forget option that applies to all modes across all my devices that stays that way until I explicitly change it.

Secondary: One-time autoplay

Once there is a functional universal autoplay setting it would be nice to have a way to temporarily override it.

A way to tell Spotify, "Turn on autoplay temporarily. As soon as I hit "stop", go back to whever my universal autoplay setting is currently set to.

Definitely need to be able to play a single song without a queue forming of other songs by an artist. I am sometimes wanting to listen to a single song and nothing else. For it to end and have silence rather than another random song chosen by Spotify and a whole long list of songs added to the queue that I’ve not chosen. The option to clear queue isn’t there on my device so this is infuriating. For paying for a subscription we have less and less choice around how we listen to music.

I want so badly to be able to play an album on the desktop client and have it end in silence instead of autoplaying other songs! Doesn't matter if I try to clear the queue, other songs pop up in the old ones' place. I see so many complaints about this on here but the responses from the staff are always extremely unhelpful and never seem fully understand the issue people are having. The autoplay disable button exists but does not work.

It's ridiculous that the switch in the settings to turn off autoplay doesn't turn off autoplay.

Yeah, this is kind of crazy.

They actually have a setting to turn off autoplay, and if you google, that's what it points you to. But it doesn't work. No matter what you do, it always loads up a bunch of other stuff in your queue. Spotify's response that you can just delete the items from the queue is ridiculous. If I tell Spotify to play X, I want it to play X. That's it. Not X, then Y, then Z, ...

Sure, I can see that some people might want this feature, and maybe there are even times when I might find it useful, but definitely not all the time, definitely not the default, definitely opt-in and not opt-out. But right now you can't even opt-out of it, since the Disable Autoplay setting doesn't actually turn this off.

I could understand maybe if this was a free service, but I'm a paying customer, I kind of expect basic functionality to work.

I have a collection of podcast episodes for later. When I have time, I want to play one episode I manually select from the list. When I do that spotify automatically adds the whole list to the queue and start playing another one when the one I selected is finished. It's driving me crazy! Now I have a collection of "started" episodes.

I'm in the midst of a trial "Premium Individual" subscription. I loathe the autoplay "feature" and would also like to permanently disable it. However, when I go into Settings, I don't even see an option to turn it off!

I'm not sure if that's due to me being on a trial membership. Anyway, it sounds like there is in fact no way to actually stop autoplay even if the toggle appears in your settings.

Note I am exclusively using Spotify in a web browser (Edge at work; Chrome at home). I don't use it on my phone (which is my only mobile device) and in fact I don't even have the app.

This problem (no way to turn off auotplay) means it's unlikely I'll start paying for a subscription once the trial ends.

Edit: adding screenshots showing what is available to me in Settings. One of the few options available to me is to turn off "Display short, looping visuals on tracks (Canvas)." However, when I do that, next time I log in to my account, I find it re-enabled.
