[All Platforms][Discover] Removing Pop-Up Suggestions

I've been using Spotify four about five or six years, and while I really enjoy it, the interface is starting to feel more intrusive and less like my music library. On applications that were not subscription-based, such as Windows Media Player and iTunes, one did not receive suggestions popping up while scrolling through one's music. Now, I feel like I'm often receiving sudden pop-ups for musicians, usually ones that I don't listen to, while I'm browsing through my music. Even if it was a musician I like, I would not want this feature. It feels intrusive and more like I'm being sold something. I don't mind suggestions being there in the home menu. That gives me the option to look if I want without it being pushed on me. Pop-ups, however, are too aggressive.

Some might argue that the company needs to make a profit as well, and while that is true, I'm a premium member. I pay the monthly fee so that I don't have to listen to advertisements. While these pop-ups don't show up in between songs, and while they are instead sponsored by Spotify and not some other company, they are, at the end of the day, advertisements. They're meant to sway you in to listening to an artist.

By removing pop-up suggestions, Spotify would be less intrusive and more like a personal music library.

Adding my voice to the chorus.

I pay for premium, and yet you've decided to keep forcing ads on me?

I'm getting all the same stupid popups as everyone else here saying they don't want them.

The kicker is every one of these posts gets the generic 'doesn't meet the requirements for actions' response.

So what's the threshold? One post said 50 likes -- this one had 163 last I looked, but still doesn't meet the requirements?

Show me how to disable this stuff. If there's no way to disable it, I'm moving to Tidal.

I'm getting very VERY close to canceling my subscription and moving to any other platform.  Spotify used to be amazing, and it's been going down hill fast over the past couple of years.  Currently I installed version 8.4.36.321 on my android device and it allows me to use the last interface that was clean and actually functional in my opinion.  It wasn't trying to be anything more than what it should be, a music library.  The home screen and suggestions doesn't work anymore because it's such an old version, but it works FANTASTIC in comparison to the current versions.  As soon as this version stops working, I'll be canceling my subscription and moving on.  Seriously irritated that I even have to resort to this.

I've left Spotify in favor of Youtube Music one and a half month ago. Despite the UI being very inferior, it does what it is: a music library. I can finally open up the app without praying it doesn't flash me another full-screen pop-up, and when I use it on Google Maps I get immediate access to music playlists instead of some generic recommendations (which are all podcasts).

So long and thanks for all the annoyances, Spotify!

I followed instructions to turn off the pop ups a few months back, but of course they're back again and this time with no tiny little link or backway to turn them off. So yeah, I'll also be eyeing other platforms.

I'm so sad to see how far Spotify has fallen with this one ...

OMFG did I SERIOUSLY just get interrupted in the middle of my post reply with a GD POP UP?! WOW. just wow Spotifail. FU

I can't even finish my sentences without pop ups interrupting me now.

My top three favorite things in life are music, writing, and chocolate - is Spotify gonna somehow interrupt my chocolate eating with pop ups next?!?

The word from support is it's not an ad it's a "quick nudge to our customers that this feature is available"

God I hate the vapid MBA-ification of everything.

Yeah, I'm out, it's getting worse, they're ignoring the users, time to speak in the only way they will ever listen- take my money elsewhere.

I opened a Tidal account. Not going to pay for both.

Maybe we could coordinate a Dump Spotify day. I doubt it would do much good, but it would be nice to know a lot of us were cutting the cord at the same time.

lightbulb

Brill I'll check it out!

They can take their 'quick nudge' and shove it! 😄

Yeah they fed me the same BS line about it not being an ad, and I explained that yes, by it is an ad but even if it weren't, I want an option to turn off alerts and nudges.

I'd have bailed already if I hadn't been loyal here for a decade already AND set up a family account for the whole household. I feel bad switching after having spent years telling everyone I know it's so superior. This nonsense though... the fact that they keep doing, ignore feedback, AND insist on lies or BS instead of just owning up to the fact that they've done something we don't like/want is too much. On principle it makes me mad enough to leave. It reminds me of the scam that is cable (paying for something when the ads were in theory paying for it already).

I like the idea of coordinating a day actually; even if the fools keep ignoring it. The only other thing I can think is that we all slam them on social media - make a meme about it being "ad free" but not pop up free or something lol

I'll have to look Tidal up - I'm not sure where I'll want to go next.
