[All Platforms] Option to have a true shuffle

So I’ve been noticing more and more recently that Spotify’s default shuffle feature doesn’t fully shuffle your songs. It does some sort of grouping to try to get similar songs together based off of what I’m sure is dozens of factors. Every time I shuffle a playlist (the one I noticed this with the most is ~100 songs and 6 hours of mostly full albums) it will group the songs mostly or completely together by album/artist, and given the number of times I’ve re-shuffled and checked the order there’s no way it’s just a coincidence. They also generally seem to be in the same order as well. If I hit shuffle play on a playlist it’ll generally put the same artists at the beginning every time.

With larger playlists of albums I am really not a fan of this shuffling method. If I have 6 hours of music on a playlist I will hardly ever have 6 hours to actually listen through the whole thing, but when I do listen to it I would like to hear all of the music on it equally, and not just the artist or two your algorithm likes to shuffle to first.

Anyways, I’m a reasonable man, all I’m asking for is an option to have a true shuffle (take all songs in the list, put them in a random order, and once they’re all played reshuffle them and play them again). Make it premium only if you want. I don’t think you should scrap the current shuffle algorithm because it sucks. Looking at some of the suggestions on here it seems like some people lobbied hard to have it that way. Just add an option for a true shuffle for those of us that don’t care about potentially getting the same song twice in a row.

Hello,

I completely agree with this.

I've also noticed that the basic shuffle feature doesn't seem to “shuffle” all my songs fairly. The algorithm seems to favor songs that I already listen to regularly, while other songs in my playlists are hardly ever played. 😢

Yes, a toggle for True Shuffle Mode would be great!

Like the smart shuffle toggle that's already available in the app settings!

I support this 100%, I do long shifts at work(12 hours) as a machine operator and I listen to music from the moment I’m awake and the two hours a day I commute. I’ve constructed a playlist over many years for my work days yet I seem to get the same 60ish songs in a day, even using Spotify “smart shuffle”. It’s a well known issue how poor the shuffle algorithm is for Spotify.

I would love for them to fix the shuffle algorithm. I usually clear my Spotify cache every couple of weeks, and it helps a little. I shouldn't have to do this for all of my songs to play.

As someone else said, it would also be great if Spotify would give us more customization options, such as the ability to choose a song for heavy or light rotation. I have some old songs that I don't need to hear constantly, and some newer songs that I love and want to hear all the time. I find myself skipping a lot of songs because it keeps playing the old songs over and over.

I want random suffel. This is terrible.  I want to hear the songs I paid for. Not what Spotify wants me to hear.

Love this idea! Perfect for long listening sessions! 🙌

I have a massive work playlist, but only a sliver actually play - True Shuffle is absolutely needed. How about add an option to the "Sort" menu to shuffle? Every time you select it, it sorts the list randomly and you can play straight through.

so spotify basically said '**bleep** our customers'???? you took away this functionality, that's how it used to work. it's not like you don't have the technology to make it happen. don't act like you care about your customers' feedback when there are 200+ pages of comments on this singular post OVER FIVE YEAR'S TIME asking for the same thing. it's literally the definition of shuffling music. you care more about your algorithm than the people who pay you money to listen to music**bleep**.
