[All Platforms] Option to have a true shuffle

So I’ve been noticing more and more recently that Spotify’s default shuffle feature doesn’t fully shuffle your songs. It does some sort of grouping to try to get similar songs together based off of what I’m sure is dozens of factors. Every time I shuffle a playlist (the one I noticed this with the most is ~100 songs and 6 hours of mostly full albums) it will group the songs mostly or completely together by album/artist, and given the number of times I’ve re-shuffled and checked the order there’s no way it’s just a coincidence. They also generally seem to be in the same order as well. If I hit shuffle play on a playlist it’ll generally put the same artists at the beginning every time.

With larger playlists of albums I am really not a fan of this shuffling method. If I have 6 hours of music on a playlist I will hardly ever have 6 hours to actually listen through the whole thing, but when I do listen to it I would like to hear all of the music on it equally, and not just the artist or two your algorithm likes to shuffle to first.

Anyways, I’m a reasonable man, all I’m asking for is an option to have a true shuffle (take all songs in the list, put them in a random order, and once they’re all played reshuffle them and play them again). Make it premium only if you want. I don’t think you should scrap the current shuffle algorithm because it sucks. Looking at some of the suggestions on here it seems like some people lobbied hard to have it that way. Just add an option for a true shuffle for those of us that don’t care about potentially getting the same song twice in a row.

@compunrd hehehe listen to yourself... you just said you are not happy with any other streaming service for different reasons. And you want to make a petition for them to change or you are going to take your 

money elsewhere? Where are you taking your money to?

if you read through the comments back, you will see there is a financial reason for Spotify doing what are they doing with the shuffle, and by the looks of it, it a reason bigger than user subscription money, yes there are a lot of us here complaining about this for the last 5 years, but still just a small dent in their subscribers. So, no, they will not do anything about it.

Either you stay and put up with this, or you go somewhere else.

im currently paying for family subscription but I've been using Apple Music for a couple of months now and I'm quite happy about it. For a few reasons:

1. It has proper shuffle

2. I'm embedded on the Apple echo system, and Spotify still doesn't have Apple Home Pod support (another one of their sunburn quirks)

3. Apple has lossless audio and Dolby Atmos for music

the only reason I'm still paying Spotify is because my wife and kid are still using Spotify, but I'm working on moving them for Apple music too... once this is done it will be bye bye Spotify.

... is what I actually did. I took my money elsewhere. I'm mentioning "Amazon Music" because that's who I happened to move to. If you go through this thread you will see that other people have moved to other providers and, by and large, are happy with their deal. It's up to you to find out which competitor is better for you than SpotZitFly.

I guess you're getting what you paid for? All I can tell you is that this thread right here has been running for over 5 years, and Spunkify has done Sweet Fanny Adams about it. If you think a "petition" would help, feel free to keep throwing good money after bad, waiting for them to get the finger out.

I have long playlists. My favorite one currently has over 700 songs on it. But whenever i play it it seems to play the same 80 to 100 songs over and over. Never letting me hear the rest of the music. I think that spotify needs a more better shuffle option. That REALLY mixes up the songs on your playlist. And gives you something new each time.

Adding my name to the list here. As a power user I have thousands of songs, and yet somehow get the same couple dozen songs repeated regularly.

I can appreciate leaning into engagement as a feature in your relevance models, but this is a massive cap on user's ability to explore their library passively through shuffle.

Please add a true shuffle option that continues to reshuffle. There are so many things I love about Spotify which is why I came over from an another streaming platform and was willing to pay. I would love to stay with Spotify and the addition of this feature will make me a customer FOR LIFE….. Please 🙏🏽

Adding myself to this list, it's the most basic thing to offer the option to have a totally random shuffle -- considering other music services due to this as I'm getting tired of hearing the same 40-50 songs when I have 1600 in my Liked Songs.

Yup, Greedfy do have a lot of gear features, unfortunately shuffle and customer service are not among those.

Profits over customer satisfaction, somehow the model works for them. It doesn't work for me, so I left. 

Only in this forum out of morbid curiosity.
