[All Platforms] Option to have a true shuffle

So I’ve been noticing more and more recently that Spotify’s default shuffle feature doesn’t fully shuffle your songs. It does some sort of grouping to try to get similar songs together based off of what I’m sure is dozens of factors. Every time I shuffle a playlist (the one I noticed this with the most is ~100 songs and 6 hours of mostly full albums) it will group the songs mostly or completely together by album/artist, and given the number of times I’ve re-shuffled and checked the order there’s no way it’s just a coincidence. They also generally seem to be in the same order as well. If I hit shuffle play on a playlist it’ll generally put the same artists at the beginning every time.

With larger playlists of albums I am really not a fan of this shuffling method. If I have 6 hours of music on a playlist I will hardly ever have 6 hours to actually listen through the whole thing, but when I do listen to it I would like to hear all of the music on it equally, and not just the artist or two your algorithm likes to shuffle to first.

Anyways, I’m a reasonable man, all I’m asking for is an option to have a true shuffle (take all songs in the list, put them in a random order, and once they’re all played reshuffle them and play them again). Make it premium only if you want. I don’t think you should scrap the current shuffle algorithm because it sucks. Looking at some of the suggestions on here it seems like some people lobbied hard to have it that way. Just add an option for a true shuffle for those of us that don’t care about potentially getting the same song twice in a row.

Hello everyone,

Thank you for your continued engagement and valuable feedback on this idea.

I'm afraid there hasn't been any change on the status of this idea since our last update. However, we've been reading all your comments and feedback which have been incredibly insightful.

As written by Moderator Eni in another topic: shuffle option prioritizes the songs that Spotify perceives you listen to most, that's why some songs can come up repeatedly.

I have a playlist with about 5000 songs, but I hear the same songs over and over.

Since the shuffle feature repeating the same songs, that means those become the songs I listen to the most, so they get played more often. So it doesn't matter if I have 5000 songs, if the shuffle mixes only a tenth (or less) into the songs actually getting played.

This creates a kind of positive feedback loop: the more certain songs are played, the more Spotify thinks I like them, so it keeps playing them—while most of my playlist stays unheard. This is not what I want.

Please implement a better shuffle feature.

How have you not fixed this yet? If I say shuffle it should shuffle all my songs. Apple is winning in this aspect.

I added the top tracks from an artist to an existing playlist.  After I added these tracks, the playlist would only play these 10 newly added tracks.  Frustrating and disappointing

How do I make shuffle my liked songs truly random, your algorithm predicts what I will like poorly?

What helps for me is clearing your Spotify cache! It’s odd, but it works occasionally!

If I'm listening to a playlist on my way to work I don't want to rehear the same songs I listened to going there on my way back. The songs replay instead just going on through the playlist. The playlist is 70+hours long, I shouldn't hear the same song in days. It's irritating!

I listen to music every single day and have thousands of songs on my likes, and for some reason every time i hit shuffle your algorithm makes me listen to the same songs every time. We NEED a better shuffle system, where its TRULY random. PLEASE. Ive done everything I can. Not AI, not Smart Shuffle, just a true shuffle option for all playlists and liked sings that doesnt favour popular artists. Im begging you.

Spotify has had many customer complaints about a poor shuffle design. As per y’all’s sugg, I try to manage my cue, which, is in fact, the same songs on infinite repeat, so I delete many, many tracks to try to make my shuffle a true shuffle. It’s very interactive w the app. Kudos to you Spotify. However, I do have vinyl when I’m looking to have this level of interaction w my music.
anyway, upon HEAVILY managing my cue,  if I touch a song, rather than sliding to delete, all of my work managing the above cue, is gone! I give my level of frustration trying to work around your lack of shuffle capabilities… five stars.
