[All Platforms] Separate Queues for Podcasts and Music

Hi there,

Would like to propose this again as it looks like related tickets were closed and not addressed.

Just want to share a concrete example on why this would be helpful... Throughout the day I'm listening to either music (while working) OR podcasts (while commuting). If I'm commuting to work, I'd like to queue up podcasts to listen to while commuting. This includes coming back to the same podcast queue when I'm commuting home from work (ie. same queue in the morning and evening). The problem is, I listen to music during the day while I'm working. So I need to clear my podcast queue and then queue everything up again after work.

I think fixing this would increase user engagement on your apps. For example, having my podcasts on Apple podcasts is just more convenient now because I don't need to deal with this daily inconvenience. Every week, that's multiple hours of engagement per user (for a subset of podcast listeners) that you could be gaining back.

I'm a huge fan of Spotify, so I'd love to be able to seamlessly use your app over Apple Podcasts for this use case. Thanks

Hey! Looks like your idea is growing up fast and it's amazing! We are going to change its status to 'Good Suggestion' now and we hope it continues being supported by more and more users.
Thanks again for your suggestion. We really appreciate it 🙂

@ehrimen it's Amazon Music. You can easily switch between music and podcasts, and each section is totally independent, with different listening queues.

I'm about to take the leap from Google Podcasts and is chosing between YT Music and Spotify. If Spotify could just fix dueal queues, it would be a nobrainer. It currently makes more sense to use YT for podcasts and Spotify for music though.

@davidgf987 Thanks for the answer. Now I changed to completely different Podcast app due to this issue and frankly now I am wondering if I need Spotify after all. Before I was forced to use YouTube Music for songs and Spotify for podcasts but as Spotify annoyed me with even my queues are disappearing all the time - let's see how long I will keep it.

All in all, this functionality is a no-brainer for everyone except Spotify product team.

I can't believe this is an actual issue. I hate using spotify for podcasts because of this. This is a no brainer.

I really am trying to give Spotify the benefit of the doubt but the user interface on Android is awful, worse than any other app I can recall using. It is very frustrating to have to scroll down a menu and find the add to queue button every time I want to add a podcast to my queue (the add to queue button should be displayed on the same screen as the name of the episode, not be behind a more options button) and then later on get to the gym and select a song then have it switch back to podcasts at the end of the song. There need to be separate queues for music and podcasts at minimum and ideally customizable queues in general. I'd like a queue for workouts, another for study/work music, for news podcasts, and another for entertainment or sports podcasts. Instead every time I want to switch genres or themes I start from scratch.

I felt both a low and a high from reading this thread. The high being that I'm not the only one in this world that thinks this is an obvious problem w/ how Spotify manages podcasts and music. The low being that this has been an issue for so long that it doesn't look like it's something Spotify will fix. I had high hopes for using Spotify for podcasts but looks like I'll be switching back to Apple podcasts

I also prefer this option. I hate that when I play a song on my laptop and then go with my mobile and start redoing my queue for podcasts. I want to have a queue for my podcasts. Also, the queue I added for music would also be vanished when I go for a ten-minute podcast!

This could reduce the number of clicks/touches (in terms of UX) and bring a much better user experience.

yeeeeees!

I go through the same thing! I listen to music while working but on commute I want to listen to a podcast! It’s awful to mess up queues of episodes because you put music or something or just play one music then play an episode! So stupid! I wish they would do that!

In my car I listen to podcasts, with my phone connected via Bluetooth to my car audio. When I get to my office I prefer to listen to music on the desktop app (Mac OS Sonoma 14.6), but for some reason the podcast starts playing. I switch to music on my desktop. When I get in my car my phone reconnects and starts playing the music where I left off on my desktop.

How do I stop this. I want the phone to start up where it left off when I got out of the car, and I want the desktop to play music, not what was on my phone.

ETA: Wow. This idea has been suggested for 6 years, back pre-Covid. And, nothing. It might be better for Spotify to post something saying "We've seen this idea and we don't plan to make any changes" and explain why.
