Allow lossless playback to Chromecast Audio device

Chromecast Audio is an older but still popular device for streaming. It supports FLAC up to 24-bits / 96 kHz so it should be able to handle Spotify lossless streams, yet it's currently limited to lossy quality. Please allow lossless playback on CCA.

Insane not to have this feature on Chromecast... Like a lot of people already said, Tidal and so on are capable of using lossless with Chromecast so please do your job here fast. We are not just 5 people, there are millions of users with Chromecast products!!!!

Agee with all posts.  I assume it's just a device setting table somewhere in spotify as to what the device supports so should be easy to upgrade CCA to lossless like other streaming services

Yes please this would be great.

Despite the excellent features Spotify provides, I had been just about to make the jump to Qobuz for hi-res; I was pleasantly surprised to see that Spotify FINALLY - FINALLY - started providing 24/96 audio streams.  As it eventually rolled out to my area, however, I found that Chromecast Audio, which is entirely CAPABLE of supporting streams at that resolution, was being excluded from this feature.  This makes it essentially useless for all of my listening needs.

PLEASE enable lossless streaming for Chromecast Audio - I like Spotify, and really DON't want to switch to a competitor if possible.  We have waited a LONG time - don't hold this back now - there is every good reason to ENABLE it.

Here we go again, Spotify will never listen, who cares if they get loseless on a jbl speaker with only one speaker element. We need this on our retro stereo system.

I just won a one year battle about the x button on pc being wrongly designed.

Now we waited for 5 years since the announcement, and we hoped that ment you worked on supporting the most important, chromecast devices.

Can anyone from spotify tell me how I can see spotify on my tv and play music from my b/w dm7 mk2 speakers from 1978 in loseless. I would do anything. I had chromecast 4k into tv with optical cable to my stereo. I would pay and buy anything to make it work, a new chromecast? A third party device? A bridge of some kind, anything. Please.

Or just add chromecast flac support like Tidal.

This is a weird bug. Other newer chromecast devices (like my Nvidia Shield) do work with lossless chromecast streams. But not the older chromecast audio. Both Tidal and Qobuz, as others have confirmed, DO allow high res streams to this device. My qobuz app even picks up on the fact that that the max is 24 bit 96khz, and adjusts the stream accordingly if necessary. This should be an easy fix Spotify!

I'll be moving to tidal later this month if lossless does not work on CCA when my bundled Spotify sub ends

While we wait for Spotify to fix this no-brainer, something that may help some of you is to check if your (wifi/smart) TV supports lossless Spotify Connect streaming. If so and if you have a digital/HDMI connection to your amp, you can stream lossless to your hifi that way. Just be careful not to enable videos, then you lose lossless.

Solved it temporarily for me. Have a great weekend! 🙂
