Allow lossless playback to Chromecast Audio device

Chromecast Audio is an older but still popular device for streaming. It supports FLAC up to 24-bits / 96 kHz so it should be able to handle Spotify lossless streams, yet it's currently limited to lossy quality. Please allow lossless playback on CCA.

I thoroughly agree, this should work. A shame it does not. It appears it has been simply forgotten. How many Chromecast Audio dongles are still used in the world? Probably hundreds of thousands!

I have some Chromecast audio devices. Indeed it would be cool if Spotify still can add support for it. This although Google discontinued this great device.

I am also using Chromecast Audio as a transport to my dac. I can stream Tidal and Plex (24bit flac) without any issues. If I am not mistaken Spotify Lossless is 24-bit/44.1 kHz so CA should be able to handle it without any issues.

Fix it please.

I guess they must have forgotten about the first part when it finally made sense for their business and then they ended up with the worst possible approach even though there were plenty of competitors to analyze over years what worked and what didn’t. Oopsie…

I fired up my Chromecast Audio today seeing lossless won't work with my Chromecast enabled TV which has HDMI passthrough to my receiver for audio in my secondary living room, expecting it to work knowing that it supports lossless for Tidal and other streaming services and was very disappointed! 

Please Spotify, make it happen for this wonderful little device!

My Question or Issue

Now that we have lossless audio, can we finally have lossless on google cast devices? Google cast has supported 24-bit / 96 KHz forever, but spotify has dragged it's feet on supporting it.

Agree, it is similar to a radio station here updating their app and as part of the update you can no longer cast to another device, only use Bluetooth. Who comes up with these ideas and identifies the use cases???

Why Spotify Connect doesn't support lossless?

All my Spotify Connect devices at home are capable of lossless playback (Tidal or my local flac files tested) but I am able to stream Spotify only up to 320kbps.

Only my mobile devices are allowed to stream lossless which is what I do not really care (data consumption and noisy environments while travelling).

I was especially looking forward to stream lossless at home. In fact, I can but only to my mobile phone which I have to connect to my Home HiFi or headphones via lossy BT. What is your lossless streaming then for?

I have Google Chromecast  (4th gen.), AudioCast M20 Pro and Hi5 Audio Streamer connected via ethernet. But none of them can be set to play lossless.

When would it be possible?
