[Android][Other] Default setting group session on speaker disabled

I think that the "group session on speaker" should be disabled by default. In my house I have about 15 different speakers and speaker groups, and we are about 8 people connected to the same WiFi and listening to Spotify. To prevent that another user takes over the speaker I'm currently listening to, I would need to enter all 8 peoples all different devices, enter the settings for that speaker, and disable group session on speaker. And than repeat that for all other speakers and speaker groups. In my case it adds up to changing a lot of settings! This behaviour cannot be expected. The default "group session on speaker" should really be disabled.

Hey @semagnussond

Thanks for reaching out about this here in the Community. We moved your post from the Ideas board to the relevant Help board, where it fits better.

Could you let us know which devices are you using?

On another note, we'd like to know if you've already tried using only one device with the Connect feature?

We also recommend taking a look at this article.

We'll be on the lookout.

Hi,

The devices used are Chomecast Audio's and regular Chromecast devices. Phones and tablets are Android. The Connect feature works fine when there is only one Spotify client in use. When another user starts to play music from their device, it sometimes automatically connects to a speaker that is already in use by the first user. The main issue is the default setting, group sessions for speaker connected to the same WiFi should not be activated be default.

Hey @semagnussond

Thanks for the additional clarification.

We've gone ahead and marked this as a new suggestion. Spotify Staff will look into this idea

once it reaches the necessary amount of votes.

I need a way to turn off the feature that shows me people nearby that are listening to Spotify and also allows them to start listening to what I am listening to when on the same wifi. See attached screenshots for example. This started happening after a recent android update.

This means that other people are also getting notified of my listening, and are able to start listening themselves! This is appropriate for FRIENDS / FOLLOWERS / AT HOME.

THIS IS NOT APPROPRIATE AT WORK OR ANYWHERE ELSE IN PUBLIC.

This is an invasion of my privacy. I don't want co-workers knowing what I'm listening to. Nor do I want to know what they're listening to.

No kidding, this is a breach of privacy and should be off by default

Default setting for any kind of sharing of any kind of thing should always be off.

Hi,

Just to add to this issue. This 'feature' is very poorly executed when traveling away from home. I've just been playing music on my Bluetooth speaker in a hotel. I've just had my queue wiped out and replaced with one song from a random stranger. Given that I'm in a hotel setting were are clearly in Bluetooth range and on the same WiFi network.

Why this should be turned on as a default feature is beyond me. Also, why is there no invitation process? A simple message to say user x would like to join your jam, which you could approve or deny. This seems like a very basic privacy consideration.
