Apple car play search feature

With the recent Spotify CarPlay update, the Search tab has been removed and replaced with “Quick Start.” While I understand the intention behind Quick Start, the removal of the Search option has made the app less safe and much less user-friendly.

The old Search button allowed for quick access to Spotify’s full library, including voice integration where Siri would ask, “What do you want to listen to?” This was incredibly valuable for drivers because it reduced distractions, let us find specific songs/artists/albums easily, and supported safer hands-free use.

Now, without Search, I either have to scroll through menus (which is unsafe while driving) or go back to my phone to find something manually. This is not only inconvenient but also goes against the hands-free safety standards that CarPlay is meant to encourage.

I strongly urge Spotify to restore the Search option in CarPlay or provide an alternative button that works the same way. Many users depended on this feature, and removing it has been a step backward in terms of both usability and safety.

Thank you for considering this feedback, and I hope to see the Search feature return in an upcoming update.

It's way less safe this way. Siri always plays the wrong music so are distracted then you have to get your phone out type what you want anyway. It's **bleep**ing terrible. Just make it like google maps where type and voice type specifics.

This was such an awful design change, I’m not sure how a group of people at Spotify in charge of feature updates could all sit in a room together and decide this was a good idea. I now have to pickup my phone at red lights to manually search for songs or playlists. Having my kids requesting specific songs doesn’t make this any easier.  Stop trying to fix things that aren’t broken.

Worst ”update” ever! Who in their right mind thought this would be a good idea???

Totally agree. I find "Quick Start" awful. I drive a decent distance each day to and from work and I like to change up what I am listening to between music, podcasts and books. I feel I am listening to the same stuff every day now. As it is illegal to touch your phone when driving, this is very frustrating.

Please, please, please return "Search" and throw away "Quick Start". 😩

Personally I hate Quick Start and "DJ" created playlists etc, but some people may love them. SO MAKE IT CONFIGURABLE. Why remove the damn thing that lets you find music? Now, I will acknowledge that the Siri voice search for music sucks absolutely, but it does work sometimes and it at least gives you a chance to choose what you want to hear rather than having to pick from a menu 🙄

Completely agree with your post.  It makes it so much dangerous to find music you want to listen to. Having to scroll through your library etc.  A ludicrous update.

This feature change is horrible.  Now I have to use my phone while driving to search for a song.  It makes no sense!

I want to cancel my subscription and switch to another platform because you removed the search function. And I have been loyal to Spotify over Apple Music.

TERRIBLE change to the interface.  Quick Start isn’t needed if your “Home” tab is good enough.   Bring back Search!!!! My kids are going crazy (and driving me crazy) when I can’t play the music they want to hear right when they want to hear it.  Incredibly unsafe and a loss of a functionality I used more than any other in your app.  RIDICULOUS!  Awful move. BRING SEARCH BACK! Kill Quick Start!
