Discovery level in personalized playlists

I would love to have a Discovery level option on Spotify.

Currently most of the songs on Daily Mixes or Autoplay are songs that I already liked. This is great but sometimes I am under the impression that the same songs are always shown to me and I wish to have the option to adjust the Discovery level, for example:

- High: high discovery would show more unknown songs that I could like, let's say around 70 percent of unknown songs and 30 percent liked ones.

- Normal: around 50% of liked/unknown songs.

- Low: this seem to be the current way Spotify works, showing around 70 or 80 percent of liked songs.

The new "Discovery level" option would influence Daily Mixes, Autoplay and Radio stations once defined by the user. The default option would be how things work today, but it would be very helpful give the users an option to define if they would like to discover more music.

I hope you may consider this idea and hopefully implement it soon.

SPOTIFY HURRY THE **bleep** UP WITH THIS

I don’t want every playlist to be “made for me”. It’s impossible to discover new music and every playlist is the same 5 songs.

I’ve been a heavy Spotify user for years, but my “Made for You” playlists have become painfully repetitive. I’ve cycled through dozens, and they just recycle the same songs I’ve already played to death.

I want the option to enable a “New Discovery” mode—something that prioritizes fresh, rare-to-me tracks while still matching the vibe (workout, coffee shop, running, etc.). Right now, my playlists are too stale to use, my Daily Mixes rarely fit the moment (like getting chill tracks when I need workout energy), and my workout mixes are straight-up exhausting in their repetition.

If you want Spotify to bring back real discovery and stop feeding us the same old songs, give this a vote!

There should be a slider where we can choose how much of a ratio of new music-saved music we have on a radio station, I always have the same songs playing on radio- there needs to be an option for JUST new music of like 5to1 ratio of new songs per one saved song.

Looking for a function like "generate playlist" to create a new playlist based on your selection (song, album, artist, etc). I love the daylist feature and I'll find new song and want to hear more exactly like that. When I use the "go to song radio" function, I'm just taken to a playlist of songs I already listen to (and are already played too often by the AI). Spotify used to be an amazing place to discover new music, everything now is geared towards reinforcing what you have already established you like.

It seems the algorithm weighs personal "likes and listens" over what is genre-relevant or artist-adjacent. This may be prefered by most folks and that's ok! But would love a toggle to allow "radio" to play based on artist and NOT personal preferences/previous plays. Spotify is playing me the same 10 artists instead of allowing me to mix it up and be exposed to more. Any help would be great. Diversity is the spice! 🙂

Amen. The overfitting is ridiculous. A toggle for "explorativeness" would be dope. What's crazy is now I go to AI for recommendations then have to remember those, go to Spotify, and explore that way.

The era of content vs user based similarity recommendation systems is over (Pandora's content based system lost). Spotify has been complacent on this front for years, but their shortfall is more glaring than ever in the age of LLMs.

Time to update guys. If you don't, you will be replaced.

🔹 The Problem

Spotify currently offers personalized mixes based on:

🎤 Artists

🎶 Genres

😌 Moods

🧠 Niche tastes

But there is no smart playlist option based on a specific song — even though many users repeat individual tracks more than they follow full artists or genres.

Right now, if you love a song and want more like it, the only options are “Go to Song Radio” or searching manually — both outdated and not truly personalized.

The Proposal

Add a new type of personalized playlist:

> 🎶 Track Mixes — smart mixes built around the vibe, structure, and feel of a specific song.

These mixes would:

Be centered around one specific track

Include songs with similar mood, tempo, and emotion

Have their own cover art and titles

Be saved in the “Made For You” section

Update automatically like existing mixes

🟩 Examples:

"Mix based on ‘Blinding Lights’ – The Weeknd"

"Inspired by ‘Save Your Tears’ – The Weeknd"

"If you liked ‘As It Was’ – Harry Styles"

"Mix based on ‘Flowers’ – Miley Cyrus"

"Inspired by ‘Shivers’ – Tate McRae"

(This feature would be especially useful for users worldwide, including listeners in Central Asia, the Caucasus, the Middle East, and Latin America.)

🔸 Why This Matters

Many people don’t follow full artists or genres — they connect emotionally with specific songs

A Track Mix gives a faster, smarter, and more intuitive way to discover similar music

It enhances personal experience and solves a real UX problem: “I want more like this track”

🌟 Benefits

A fresh level of personalization

Better engagement and discovery

Works great with DJ, Wrapped, and recommendation systems

Can be combined with an in-menu option:

> ⋯ → Create Mix Based on This Song

Summary

Spotify already understands our artists, moods, and genres.

Now it’s time to understand our favorite songs.

Give users Track Mixes — it’s the most personal way to explore music yet.

When I select a radio of a song, it's because I like it and I don't already know similar songs. Otherwise, I'd create my own playlist. What I'm looking for when I listen to the radio is to discover similar songs that surprise me.
