Idea: AI Voice-First Spotify Driving

Hello Spotify Product Team,

My name is Bryan, I’m 18 years old, and music — especially Spotify — has had a significant impact on my life. Writing this message and thinking through this idea has genuinely given me hope and motivation about what I might be able to build and contribute to in the future.

I wanted to share a real driving-related problem that I recently experienced and that I believe Spotify is uniquely positioned to solve using AI.

While driving, I had a song stuck in my head. I remembered how it sounded, but not the title. For safety reasons, I avoided touching my phone — which meant I simply couldn’t play the song at all. That moment highlighted a gap in the current in-car music experience.

Proposed solution: a voice-first, AI-powered Spotify Driving Mode

- Fully hands-free and screen-free

- Wake phrase such as “Hey Spotify”

- Natural language commands like:

   - “Add [song title] to my queue”

   - “Play this song” (user hums the melody) → Spotify AI returns the top three matches and plays the best one

   - “Play something similar, but calmer”

- Deep personalization using Spotify’s existing listening and context data

Why this matters

- Reduces driver distraction and improves safety

- Solves a very real, everyday user problem

- Keeps users within Spotify’s ecosystem instead of relying on external voice assistants

- Builds naturally on Spotify’s AI DJ, personalization, and audio intelligence strengths

- Differentiates Spotify’s in-car experience from competitors

I would genuinely love the opportunity not only to share this idea, but also to help think through the design and user experience of such a feature if it were ever explored further. Even at my age, being able to contribute in a meaningful way — whether through feedback, design thinking, or collaboration — would be incredibly motivating. Of course, I would be open to this being done in a fair and appropriate professional context.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and for creating a platform that has played such an important role in my life.

Kind regards, Ciolponea Bryan
