Mark / Disable AI Generated Songs

The platform is increasingly flooded with AI-generated songs (especially the Release Radar), making it harder for users to discover authentic, human-created music. To improve the listening experience, Spotify should introduce a clear label for AI-generated songs and provide an option to filter them out entirely.

Controversial view: AI music will not only destroy the music industry, but it will destroy Spotify too.

Hear me out:  I am long time Music lover with an extensive lossless audio CatLog, and have dabbled with Spotify over the years to find new music, which it is has done very well.  I feel guilty about the fact i never subscribed with a Premium Membership, and have considered it, but there is one big issue holding me back, this prevalence of AI generated music.

Solution: If Premium membership allowed you to filter out AI music and only return real artists generated music in searches and suggested playlists i am sold, sign me up.  I also propose all AI music be flagged as AI content in Free and Premium memberships.

It's a bit comical that the "band" The Velvet Sundown is a verified artist
on Spotify when they themselves admit they are an artificial AI-project.

AI content is garbage that resembles music only if you consider the sound of toilet flashing a music too. I'm tired of hearing AI nonsense in my playlists and after many years I consider leaving spotify for good. I want real people creating and sharing real ideas. AI is noise that has no place on Spotify.

Release weekly turned out to be a crappiest list ever. I don't need AI in it

Totally agree. Please vote for an AI filter and label implementation. Sick of this metallic and soulless voices. And it is getting worse every day in my « Made for you » playlists

I too never want AI generated music.  That's the whole point of listening to music is to showcase and appreciate the creativity of humans.  Not the creativity of an LLM trained on god knows what making up JV music suggestions that I can't filter out.  I don't want AI music ever.  I've turned off smart shuffle for good and won't use any more suggested playlists from you Spotify.  Your recommendation algorithms are breaking.... you might want to fix that.

Also.  It would be nice if your CEO quit funding weapons development.  like wth?   Music to Mayhem?  Not cool.  Makes me dislike your services even more.

Considering switching to Deezer because they're at least trying to flag AI trash.

If Spotify isn't willing to identify, flag, or filter AI content I'll likely take my business elsewhere

There are also some legal implications to being the platform that distributes - most often copyright infringing - material.

Since most AI Music generators don't disclose their dataset, which is most often using copyrighted material, this can become quite a problem for Spotify, especially in the EU which recently updated its guidelines on prohibited AI usage (Commission Guidelines on prohibited artificial intelligence practices established by Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 (AI Act)).

Which by themselves don't really cover the infringement of copyright when using AI tools. But knowing the EU this is something which will surely be a topic sooner than later.

And even tho I am no legal expert, the upload of copyright infringing material is a widely and well known issue. Which in itself doesn't  infringe on Article 6a of the digital services act. But could become a problem if such infringement is  systematic and of a large scale where Spotify can't say that they know of nothing.

Again, I am no legal expert.

But I do believe that such labeling could be in the best interest of Spotify themselves, to mitigate future troubles and lawsuits.

Technically speaking automatic labeling of music as AI generated music is possible. There are already a lot of papers regarding this topic. And one could always appeal if music is falsely labeled as AI generated.

AI music, like Suno creations, opens up my own music world with my own lyrics and my own compositions. However, on Spotify I usualy try to skip all AI-generated music in Discover Weekly or Release Radar — there should really be a default option to skip AI songs. Right now it feels like half of the new songs are AI-made, but in AI music I only want to enjoy my own, not others’ creations.

It would be great if Spotify introduced three lists:

Discover Weekly (only human-made music)

Discover Weekly + AI (mixed content)

Discover AI (only AI-generated music)

The last option is critical for Spotify to remain competitive in the market, because Suno already takes up half of my music listening time — and I’m sure I’m not the only one. If Spotify doesn’t acquire an existing AI music project or start its own, they could be out of the market within a few years.
