New way to change songs number in the playlist

I'm creating a playlist with a lot of songs in it. The thing about this playlist is that it goes through songs in order by Month and year released, going from 1952 to 2025. The playlist has 427 songs as of writing this, but having to reorder the songs by scrolling takes a while, especially when the playlist gets longer.

My Idea is to have an option to change the song's number. So, say I add a new song to the playlist. It will start with the number 428. But if I could just tap on the number 428 and then write 57, then it should push all other songs up by one, so the song on 57 would become 58, and song number 427 would become the new 428.

I have some playlists with over 300 songs and I want to arrange them so it looks nice and in the order, I want to. Maybe a way to change the number of the song directly without having to move it. For example, SONG A is 345th on the playlist (i would click the number and change it to #20) So SONG A would be in #20 instead of 345th.

Hello and thanks for bringing your feedback to the Idea Exchange. We've marked this as a new idea.
Spotify Staff will look into this idea once it reaches the necessary amount of votes. I've edited your idea to just cover the second suggestion since the other one is already available on Spotify for desktop.

More information about how the Spotify Idea Exchange works can be found here.

Hey, @oyye

You've mentioned the possibility to select some songs to move them together. It's already possible on Spotify for Desktop. You just need to keep the Comand/Ctrl keys pressed and using your cursor, you can just tap on the songs you want to select. When you finish it, you just need to drag-and-drop anywhere you want to.

If you have any other further questions or need more help, let me know! I'd love to help!

Best Regards,

I was curating a playlist for which the order of the songs in it was important; however, the larger the playlist got, the more tedious it became to move songs to where they were supposed to be. It takes ages to drag and drop the songs to the correct place, as the playlist doesn't automatically scroll up or down, so I have to drag a song to an edge, scroll and then continue dragging the song until it's where it's supposed to be.

It would be helpful if a feature could be developed where the number(#) of the songs in the playlist could be used to help move songs around more quickly. For example, something that allows one to enter that they want to place a certain song after the current song #5.

Thank you!

Hey @oyye

Your Idea has been submitted a while ago, and unfortunately hasn't gathered enough votes (50 votes within 3 months) to keep it active in the Exchange. Be sure to know that this does not mean that your Idea has been declined by Spotify.

Don't worry, your Idea will still be able to gain more votes, and may get a Live Idea status if it receives enough of them.

This is a simple one, allow users to edit the number next to a song on the playlist to edit its placement. Say I wanted song 4117 to be song 36 on my playlist: it would be far easier to type that in rather than drag it all the way to the top. It would shift everything beneath the new number down one.

I'm sorting my songs by release date. but when I add a song from long ago, I have to drag the song al the way to the top of the playlist. I like the ability to just fill in the spot where the song has to go. Like: spot 1240

Hi! As a regular user of your product, I am in dire need of convenient editing of large playlists. What I mean is that there are already several types of sorting in the playlists, but I would like to be able to quickly change number of the track in the playlist

What am I talking about - you have a sort of "Own order". So to make up your own order, you have to pull the track from 999 position to the 14, scrolling the entire playlist. Please spare people like me. I would like to see a selection button or submenu in the track properties that allow you to assign a new number in the playlist. For example, after selecting a track and clicking on it with the left mouse button, under "Add to queue" add "Move to position ...".

I hope you will hear me. I am sure this function will not be superfluous. Have a nice day!

This is a better idea than just add to beginning or end (especially on mobile, specifically for ios)
