Please give us an Apple Watch app that doesn't require an iPhone

I really want an apple watch app that you dont need an phone to use. I know kids that dont have a phone but have a watch and they would benefit. Please add this. We could just log in via watch or 2-factor authorization.

We have a family premium plan with Spotify. Both of my children have Apple Watches with the Spotify app installed. They are unable to log in due to the requirement of having an iPhone. Allowing them to log in from their watches would solve the problem. Other services such as Pandora and Amazon allow this.

We bought my son an apple watch so he can listen to spotify. It didn’t occur to me that this wouldn’t work since it’s such a core use case.

Please, give a mom a break here. 🙏😭

Pls enable spotify use on standalone apple watches. Apple music works fine. The spotify watchos app seems to be able to work on its own, as on a iphone+apple watch setup, I can leave the phone at home and spotify works just fine.

With Apple Watch For Your Kids, your family member who doesn't have their own iPhone can use their Apple Watch to do things like make phone calls, send messages, and share their location with you.

My current solution: I am switching from Spotify Family to the Apple Music family plan (which is $4 cheaper).

I prefer spotify, but the family plan is a bit useless if it doesn't work on kids devices. Will check back here next year to see if there are any changes.

Agree with the above! If this doesn't work, I'm switching to Apple Music.

Same. This is sad, but I'm right on the verge of switching to Apple Music as well. It's ridiculous that my son who has an apple watch cellular but doesn't have an iphone can't get spotify on his apple watch.

This makes me sad, but is the nudge we needed to move to Apple Music. Basically the same catalog, but costs less and works on standalone Apple Watches. 8 years with Spotify and a gap in their software suite is what killed them for us. Add this feature and maybe we’ll be back! But for today, one less family plan subscription for Spotify, and one new one for Apple Music!

Same.  Just got a watch for our kid set up (no iphone), and was shocked that Spotify doesn't support this.  Looks like Amazon music and Apple music does though.  Reading comments it appears this has been a problem for years and Spotify hasn't bothered to fix.

Been paying for premium since 2012. I always thought Spotify was the leading music streaming service, but honestly this issue is a massive one and has me rethinking my loyalties. Seems like a switch to Apple Music is coming.

Yes, please get this into the development pipeline! I bought my kids Apple Watches for Christmas thinking that they’ll be able to access our family premium account. This absolutely will be a deal killer for me- my kids are the driver for my family premium account and their watch will be their primary access point.

Daveniko

Agreed, will likely have to switch if kid can’t access on new stand alone Apple Watch. Suspect Spotify will miss out on capturing potential lifelong users that are a few years away from getting an iphone and get used to Apple Music because it’s what’s available.
