The ability to disable the Jam function.

Ok so Jam function seems incredibly odd to begin with, but I suppose in a rare instance where you want to listen to love songs with someone who's far away at the exact same time, or you're running a silent Disco, there might be a use for it for a very small number of people.

But there should be an option to disable it in your settings. Let's start with the hypothetical scenario that I don't want to run into: A crazy ex or a stalker trying to send me their sad playlist everyday. Also, and possibly more frustrating, is the automatic prompt that comes of when you and another person listening to Spotify are on the same Wi-Fi. Why am I being sent an unprompted question without an invitation from another user in my home or business if I would like to join and listen to exactly what they're listening to at the same time. If I happen to want that, would I not just play the music aloud? We obviously already started listening to what we want to listen to on our own devices by ourselves, so why would I suddenly want to listen to exactly what they want to listen to?  Automatically searching for users on the same Wi-Fi seems crazy intrusive to me what if we're on a public Wi-Fi at a mall? How many prompts would you'd be receiving to join? Anyway I don't mind if this crazy feature (that I'm willing to bet a Year's membership that under 5% of users use monthly) stays on the app,  I just want the ability to turn it off so it doesn't bother me while I'm listening to music by myself.

How do I get this feature disabled? It is now 2025 and the thing still exists. It's super annoying and feels like a violation of my privacy, since now it is no longer needed to be on the same Wi-Fi. I'd be listening to music on my Bluetooth box in my car and some random stranger can just hijack it and blast music through my car, even without me accepting the jam. This has happened already multiple times to me and I cannot seem to find a way to disable it. I mean completely, as I don't want to be doing a bunch of steps on my phone to end a jam as I am driving!

Can someone please help me with this? I really want it to end😭

EDIT: For those of you who have an iPhone, I think I found a solution. Don't know which one does the trick, but found both on other fora and seems to work so far. You can still connect to bluetooth devices and play Spotify. Hope this helps you too!

Settings>apps>facetime>shareplay

Toggle off shareplay

And

Settings>Privacy and security>Bluetooth

Toggle off Spotify

Jam is a fun and useful social listening feature in the right context. But it needs to be OFF BY DEFAULT.

Tip: Spotify will automatically start a Jam when you are connecting to a smart speaker or most Bluetooth speakers. Users on the same WiFi will receive an invitation to your Jam

I believe that under no circumstances should jam enable itself, such as when connecting to a smart speaker. I'm so sick of it auto inviting my flatmates to my private music listening in my bedroom. I have to turn it off every other time I use my Echo.

This is common sense. There shouldn't have had to be 577~ people take the time out of their day to express this.

The real world consiquences of this failure to act on a significant privacy issue has now resulted in children being exposed to foul language and despicable lyrics. When a random stranger accepted that auto-invite to jam and started adding offensive content to a childs playlist, you have to think what the **bleep** Spotify are prioritising.

Spotify, you should be ashamed. Implement this feature with maximum urgency. Protect children from your failures as a company. A parent should not have to deal with an app that chooses to put their children in harms way after being asked in 2023 to do something about it.

Hatejam

I hate the jam I think users should create a class action suit against a violation of privacy because there's no way to disable it and Spotify is sharing our device locations through Bluetooth to others

The Social Feature to "start a jam and invite others" is on by default, even after I've turned it off. This is obnoxious and offensive. Allow this feature to be disabled  permanently.

Xevyr

Having this "off by default" is not even enough imo, even though it would be a start... This is just not okay and there NEEDS to be a main setting that disables the entire feature so all the toggles, invitations and devices scanning for others without permission get disabled. This feature violates basic privacy 101.

So damned annoying this feature.

I really enjoyed having my listening bombed by kids thinking it's funny inserting thrash metal tracks into my queue!

If you've got to have this facile, utterly stupid feature, at least let us have a master button to disable it and enable if and when WE WANT!

I'm paying £19.99 for a family subscription and my playing can get hijacked at any moment by people playing pranks.

Unreal!

This feature is a privacy-violating nightmare. I don't want my neighbors to be notified whenever I connect to a bluetooth speaker, which is very common for me to do. I know you can toggle off the feature from the Now Playing devices screen - but that means *at minimum* the first time you use the speaker, everyone around you will be invited to a Jam without your knowledge! I also sometimes get unintended jam invites from people who had no knowledge their name was popping up on my phone.

As I'm typing this, I'm dumbfounded that I have to - how did this feature made it past the initial idea stage - it's a mind-bogglingly bad idea. Yes, I understand *starting* a jam - that's pretty neat! Of course that should be a feature! But not ****auto**** inviting people. wth!!!! Who in their right mind signed off on this??? Please remove it immediately, because people are inviting everyone around them *without* their consent, which is a MAJOR privacy violation. Not minor, MAJOR. This feature has to go.

The join Jam QR Code and Text, in CarPlay Takes about 1/3 of the screen. Please give me the Option to disable this or put it somewhere less anoying.

JudgementalTurtle

jams make sense when you're playing music on a bluetooth speaker, but there needs to be an opt-out.
