Hello guys!
This is a big topic (and a bit controversial). I want to see what people in the Community think about AI generated songs. I've found some threads in the Ideas Exchange related to this, and it's great to see everyone's opinions and how they think this should be handled:
I would like to get your opinion on this. Here are a few open-ended questions to get the conversation started—feel free to respond to any of these or share your thoughts in your own way:
- Do you think all uses of AI are legitimate, or which ones are (adding an AI instrument/vocals VS generating full song)?
- Do you think listening to AI music is detrimental for traditional musicians and artists? Does it affect smaller or bigger artists the most?
- Are you concerned about how AI music models are trained, such as where their data comes from or issues around privacy and originality?
- If you're against AI music, what is it that throws you off? Quality, the fact that it's low-effort, authenticity, or something else?
I don’t consider AI-generated “music” to be music at all.
Music is an art form, composed and played by people as a creative form of expression, and comes from the musicians’ ideas, emotions, or experiences. Listeners can appreciate this creativity, as well as admire the musicians’ skill at their instruments.
AI-generated “music,” on the other hand, lacks any such authenticity, as it’s not created by people at all. Even if an AI-generated “song” sounded nice to me, I would never listen to it intentionally or add it to a playlist, because it doesn’t express ideas that came from actual humans.
I hope that AI won’t pose a significant threat to music artists and bands in the future, but the fact that it’s present on streaming platforms like Spotify means that it’s already starting to compete with real musicians. For instance, personalized playlists like Discover Weekly contain a limited number of tracks, and if AI-generated tracks are showing up there, it takes away opportunities for listeners on Spotify to discover real music instead. That’s why I already voted for the Live Ideas that you mentioned, @Jose_M.
Hello @AdamDamon!
Thanks for taking the time to reply and give your insights on this topic.
I couldn't agree more with you, a huge part of why I listen to music is because of the whole creative process involved, and what the song represents. Each song has a background, a story of why the artist decided to write it and play it that way.
For me, AI generated music is empty and lacks the authenticity of a human created song. It doesn't really express any feelings because the main or only purpose is to create something catchy or something that sounds nice to get higher play counts.
Cheers!
AI music is not a music unless it's a mixtape. It somehow slips the quality
I listened to AI music without knowing what AI was,but I really like it
It doesn't really express any feelings because the main or only purpose is to create something catchy or something that sounds nice to get higher play counts.
And who are you to judge if the song is created for "play counts" or maybe to express someone's feelings? I've got some songs that were AI generated, but their express my feelings just fine.
Using ai in music not only effect small artist but also big ones. Ai ruins not only listeners inventiveness but also the whole Spotify community in one, it changes the whole definition on creativity. I believed Spotify was supposed to be where listeners can connect and create their own playlist of musicians and artist they love. adding Ai into the mix smashes and distorts the fun and imagination due to it being artificial, its not real. I understand your not an employee, but to support and allow this sort of behavior is sickening. why would I as a listen want to have a robot mix up a few songs for me as my daily playlist, when i can use my two hands and make one for myself in under 30 minutes. i understand that some people may not have that sort of time on their hands but still. There's a reason to why you can search up other peoples playlist. There's a reason to why there's a search engine, use it. Especially when ai is used in songs. It takes away value and meaning behind them. It doesn't show anything but how much laziness you have. Ai cant have feelings, its fake. The same way if it where used in drawings, paintings, writing, and photo editing, its all fake and uncreative. Its stupid to see so many people support and continue to use it knowing that it takes gallons of water and puts so many animals and ourselves at risk of extinction. use your hands. use them. Don't even start with that "oh but i don't have the talent". That. Doesn't. Matter. Its not like I was born with the immediate talent of drawing and sketching, I practiced. For years and months, it take time and passion. Using something as ai to generate disfigured images is stupid. Its shows nothing but your lazy and insolent behavior. I've seen a blind man put more effort into art then anyone who has ever used ai to generate a image. It's ridiculous. Grow up put a pencil, guitar, sound board, canvas, keyboard, paint brush, tablet, notebook, microphone, flute, etc. In your hand and use your time and practice, study, and learn, how to create. It's not hard.
AI music, like Suno creations, opens up my own music world with my own lyrics and my own compositions. However, on Spotify I try to skip all AI-generated music in Discover Weekly or Release Radar — there should really be a default option to skip AI songs. Right now it feels like half of the new songs are AI-made, but in AI music I only want to enjoy my own, not others’ creations.
It would be great if Spotify introduced three lists:
Discover Weekly (only human-made music)
Discover Weekly + AI (mixed content)
Discover AI (only AI-generated music)
The last option is critical for Spotify to remain competitive in the market, because Suno already takes up half of my music listening time — and I’m sure I’m not the only one. If Spotify doesn’t acquire an existing AI music project or start its own, they could be out of the market within a few years.
My Spotify is full with AI music, I hate the fact, that Spotify is even pushing these songs in their playlists! Idk how it works copyright wise, since AI can’t create things by itself, but it’s a collection of uncountable copies and edits. 0% is original. No heart, no soul, no real music! I’m disgusted! And that’s all aside the pay of the musicians and the investments in Weaponized drones! Literally I got no reason to stay! I’m changing to TIDAL!
