Music You Didn't Like at First, But Grew on You

Ever listen to an artist or album, and think "not for me," then go back weeks or years later, and think "Wow, what was I thinking, this is AWESOME!"

Moods are so pervasive and can ulitmately affect what you like at any given moment. Maybe you just weren't in the right mood when you initially played the album. Or when years have gone between listening, maybe you have matured and learned to appreciate something in a brand new way.

My first example is Deerhunter. Didn't like them at first, but they have been showing up on my Discover Weekly, and I decided to give them a chance. Now I think they are great.

For me it's the band Steely Dan. When I first heard their music, I didn't like it that much. But after hearing a mixtape a couple of times during a roadtrip through Florida, Georgia and Tennessee I started to fall in love with the music.

When I later had music lessons, I started to love the music even more because I started to understand the greatness and genius about the compositions and arrangements. And when I finally got to learn what the lyrics were all about (lyrics come always at a later stage when I'm listening to music), my jaw dropped again.

Today I can say that Steely Dan and Donald Fagen's solo records are among my favorite albums of all time.

my dad put this song on one day and I thought how could any person honestly enjoy this. It was just noise and I honestly couldn't find any sort of sound out of it. It just sounded like nonsense garbage. but now years later I heard it again and immediatly loved w.a.s.p.

Many of my friends, when asked about a good artist, mentioned Logic. I had never really listened to his music and when I did at first, I wasn't a big fan. It was after listening to his whole album when I started to enjoy his music.

I've been a Queens fan since their first album and seen them live on 3 different album tours, but this album didn't sit right with me to begin with. Really starting to get into it now though!

Radiohead, without a doubt, is a prime example of this for me. It literally took me years to really enjoy and understand their music. I think the turning point for me was when I saw the live From the Basement recording of this song off of Kid A.

Metal Music - pretty much any artist under this genre. prior to the age of 15 i always thought metal music was pointless screaming and cliched depressed rhetoric. but once i became a brooding teenager with a fondness for rock music i discovered that alot of metal music was very poetic lyrically, and the musicians were very talented and dedicated to their instruments of choice. it is a widely varied genre with all kinds of sub genres in it, that caters to every and all moods and includes a wide range of female fronted bands which is always cool for other girls to see. i have been a metal fan since 2001. and i will grow into an 80 year old with a fondness for heavy guitar riffs and bellows from the soul 🙂

Oh when rockstar came out, I listened to it through slicethepie and I was like, nah dude! it's ugly. I didn't know it was by post malone. Then  at school everyone was hype about it , I listen to it and am lime this song is cool, where have I heard it? I still think 21 savage shouldn't be in the song

Linkin Park - One More Light

When I first heard this album after its release, I expected hardcore/heavy rock vibes from Linkin Park but it was the complete opposite. I thought it was trashy pop music but slowly overtime and due to the passing of Chester Bennington, this album holds unbelieveable significance and value as one of Linkin Parks finest work. 

It grew on me after I listened to it in some of my darkest times through battles with my mental health and I now value this album highly above any others.
