Can you think of any songs you like, where as you listen to the song, you seem to enjoy it more and more as it progresses? Feel free to share!

The song that I was listening to that made me think of posting this topic is “Hydra” by the psychedelic stoner rock band Gorm:

spotify:track:32KJFQ2VuhTL9r7dEbqfsA:small

While I do like the beginning of the song, where the guitar melodies sound calm and introspective to me, sometimes evoking pastoral scenes or memories, the song takes a while to gain momentum and I start nodding along.

Around the 5 minute mark, there’s a really nice, short guitar solo that does just that, leading the chord progressions to even more exciting places with the help of a wah pedal.

The song goes through a lot of themes as it progresses further, and never seems to lose my attention these days, but my favorite theme of all happens during the last 2 and a half minutes, where some impressive technical guitar work lays down some really cool palm-muted riffs to achieve a sort of "chugging" effect. It’s also in this last section of the track that some of my favorite melodies from the lead guitar join in, helping to cultivate further the song's adventurous and uplifting mood.

Gorm are able to really take me as a listener on a journey with this track, and I’d definitely recommend their music if you enjoy psychedelic- or stoner rock.

This song doesn't live up to your description, but I love the confusing start (and finish), with the surprising change into the essential part. And yes, psychedelic, very psychedelic.

Awesome question @AdamDamon! Also really enjoy the song you linked 😀

One track that came to mind right away is Gazelles. It's quite the different vibe than psychedelic rock, but wanted to share it! It starts off with this calm piano melody, and around 1 minute in it transforms to a more dramatic (and maybe cinematic) piece. Really cool sound design!

Thanks for sharing, everyone!

@CALIXTO77 Nice, I used to have this Jethro Tull album on CD when I was growing up! Back then, prog rock was the genre of music that got me interested in listening to music for fun. I’ve been re-listening to Heavy Horses now that you’ve mentioned “Acres Wild"; that’s a nice song, and I’d say that my favorite from the album is this one:

Hi @CALIXTO77 ,

I hope you don’t mind me replying in English, and it’s nice to hear that you’re finding this Chat area to be a good place to find other people who really like rock music!

In a similar way, I’ve found a few music-related Facebook groups to be the best places for me to interact with other people who appreciate my favorite types of music as well.

Cheers!
