Hey there,
Here is my fav list in no particular order: )
Hum I am always so unsure of top best of's as there is just so much great music released over the years, so sorry for any artists left out this list here.
1. TooL - If I had to pick one as the top it would be the รnima release. Each album the band records has it's own style and feel to it. So I enjoy anything Maynard Keenan puts his talents to.
2. Led Zeppelin - Either II or III tough choice between the two here.
3. The Who - Quadrophenia - For the fact the release and music direction was such a big move for the band, and the tour for the album ended up by the band's standards as being a complete failure, but the album is a classic and also fantastic.
4. Pink Floyd - Here is another tough artist to just pick a top album, tough choosing a top one of them all between Darkside of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, and The Wall. But I would say Darkside of the Moon set the stage for the band moving out of their previous experimental music sound, and also building great musical album experiences later on with later releases. Though Meddle is a great release too as a shift in sound and direction for the group.
5. Black Sabbath - One of the god fathers that heavily influenced 80's metal as with Cream, Blue Cheer, Mountain, Led Zeppelin, Alice Cooper, Deep Purple, and Rainbow thrown in here as well. Lets see my top album is Black Sabbath's Vol. 4. But Master of Reality is a close second here. Man another hard artist to choose just one.
6. Rainbow - Long Live Rock 'n' Roll - Anything Ronnie James Dio and Ritchie Blackmore recorded was gold.
7. Cream - Disraeli Gears - Another tough artist to pick a top release.
8. Alice Cooper - Ah another hard Artist that has so many good releases, but Billion Dollar Babies has to be a top there somewhere, but Love It To Death, Killer, School's Out, and even Cooper's solo thing with Welcome to My Nightmare and Alice Cooper Goes to Hell are great releases as well.
9. Mountain - Climbing! with the track Mississippi Queen probable one of the most famous hard rock anthem songs for any Hard rock/metal head out there.
10. DIO - Might as well do a honorary listing here, and finish up the top 10 list with one of the godfathers for metal influenced music for Ronnie James Dio with Holy Diver.
But I left out bunches of music by the Stones, the Beatles, the Yardbirds, Deep Purple with their self titled release, as well as the releases of Deep Purple In Rock, Fireball and Machine Head. I have barely scratched the surface, anyway that is off the top of my head at the moment, I could list hundreds of releases though. I will let the community members search for the releases listed above. ๐
