Ways to Discover Songs (New & Old)

Ways to Discover Songs (New & Old)

I've been mulling on starting up a topic like this for awhile now.  The topic is self explanatory-- write how you discover music.

Before YouTube I was going to the local mall where I'd spend hours listening to 15 second blurbs on the songs.  Music discovery was slower until Spotify and the likes got into the scene.  While I still love holding a record, tape, or CD, music streaming has grown my music library beyond belief.

Let's here how you discover new sounds to YOU!

Hey!

I created a website to discover the next big hits in music. Anyone can share their discoveries of new songs by emerging artists and give them support.  The result is a curation of the best new emerging music to find new hits daily!

Would love if you give it a try and let me know what you think

Great topic, @musicorumgenius!

Lately, I’ve been fairly slow when it comes to discovering music that I like (perhaps because I’m picky about the music that I enjoy, or because I tend to only use these few methods listed below to discover music).

That said, here are the places where I check for unfamiliar music these days, which could be of interest to me:

  • Every now and then, I’ll go through a selection of the playlists I’m following on Spotify (representing my favorite genres of music), to see if there are any newly added songs there; it’s sometimes the case that I have similar music taste to another playlist creator on Spotify, and I’ll end up adding a song to my library by an artist that they recently added to their playlist.
  • Similarly, I’ll also sometimes visit the artist pages of bands that I like on the desktop app, heading specifically to the “Discovered on” sections. I’ll check out the user-generated playlists that appear there, containing music by these artists that I already appreciate, while on the lookout for songs and artists that I haven’t listened to before.
  • Occasionally I'll also revisit the discographies of the artists in my own playlists; it’s sometimes the case that there are songs by these artists that I haven’t listened to in a while (or at all), and might now appreciate.
  • On most days, I check out Spotify’s recommended music on the Home screen, in case there are any suggestions that I haven’t already listened to (these are usually in sections such as “Album picks,” “Discover something new,” and “Recommended for today”).
  • I also check the “bell icon” on the mobile app on most days, to see if there are any new releases by bands that I like appearing there (this feature seems to update more consistently than does the “New releases for you” section of the Home screen that can be found on the desktop app).
  • Sometimes I’ll also find music that is of interest from posts on the music-related Reddit communities or Facebook groups that I’m in. On Facebook, I’m also following most of the same artists that I’m following on Spotify; this way, I can receive updates from their posts there about upcoming releases (and sometimes even check out links that they share to listen to exclusive streams of new music, prior to it being available on Spotify).

Cheers!

I follow the discovered weekly playlist from Spotify.

Then I like to create a playlist with my favorite songs. Then Spotify recommends extra songs for that playlist. Thus I can discover.

Another way is to use "enhance" feature on Spotify playlists.

I also like to follow my favorite songs radio to find out similar tracks.

 I use the following:

Spotify (Release Radar, Discovery Weekly*, New Music Friday, New Releases~ I just click on every new album that comes out every Friday, Daily Mixes found in HOME, sometimes just listening to the recommended songs from a created playlist by me~ you can rotate new recommended songs if you click a button, I created a blended playlist with my family~ big musical family, sometimes from friend activity~ I can see what they listen to and check it out, playlists created by whomever, end of the year Spotify Stuff specifically ~ Songs Spotify thinks I missed in a given year, sometimes artists recommend a playlist, sometimes I check out other artists similar to the artists I like, Anything on "Made for you" category in "Search", anything in "Charts" preferably countries OTHER than the USA, and lastly, I like to sometimes type in words into the search and listen to whatever random songs with that keyword.

1)  Music Charts Aggregator (Shows Multiple Countries)📊

This allows you to see charts from multiple countries from the following iTunes, Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, Shazam, and Deezer.

2.  Rank Music & See What Others Like 🏆

See what others say about music & you can leave your own rankings for others to see.

3.  Last.FM  👂

Allows you to link your Spotify and keeps track of music you listen to.  It gives you a report on your listening statistics.  You can discover new music via their "Play Your Recommendations".  You can discover what others listen to and friend them or message them.  Artists have their own page where you can discover more songs and similar artists to ones you liked.  Just google how to squabble your Spotify with Last.FM

4.  Spotify Radio Player (JQBX)  &  YouTube Radio Player (Turntable)   📻

Both of these sites is like your own radio station.  This is where you can play a song for an audience and share music with others.  One uses Spotify and the other uses YouTube URL links.  The Spotify Radio Player (JQBX) was bought out by Turntable but they are still separate.

5.   Submit Hub  ☑️

Use this to find those really really rare songs.  This is a British website... You can even share your created songs and people will give you feedback using the "Hot or Not".  This is a very useful tool for Emerging Artists.

6.  Hype Machine   🤖

It's a music aggregator which compiles and streams music from hundreds of different blogs on its site.

7.  Tastebuds   💃🕺

This is an easy to use way to discover music and keep track of lists (Artists I've seen, Underrated Artists, Whatever you want ETC).  This was geared to be like a dating app but I really only use it to discover music.  This site's peak happened awhile ago but I do use it to discover music sometimes.

8.  Pandora  🐼

9.  YouTube Recommendations  ▶️

10.  Checking out concerts of your favorite artists... They tend to have up and comers on stage with them (check out the tours and who they bring)

11.  Movies are another old school way.. Same with radio  🎥

Obviously Spotify Community is a place too!  But you already knew that!

This is the link

https://www.leets.it/feed

So I can't send you a message to ask you what your website is.  Can you reply with your website so that everyone that wants to can see.  Mods (If that is a violation I apologize ahead of time.  I can't private message the user due to having a limited amount of private messages even though I barely use that feature.  Thank you!)

That website is legit well done.  I'll spread the word to help it grow.  It's amazing how you built that.  It's honestly insane how technical yet so simple.
