Depends on how you would define indie because it's such a broad genre. 

Bands like Rooney, The Walkmen, Death Cab For Cutie and The Subways is where I started with indie many many years ago but the genre has changed slightly since then.

Now I think popular indie sounds like any of the following artists, and particular songs, all of which I'd highly recommend for a nice chilled vibe. Perfect for a summer BBQ or a night drive.
