I havent listened to or even enjoyed half of these, but heard enough to know "metal AF." The first song is brilliant though

That's what I'm talking about! Listening to yours and I Appreciate your share Tynon. Here's one that I'm still feasting on

Hi @StompingLlama, my favorite heavy metal playlist that I've made is my doom metal playlist; feel free to check it out if you like. Most of the bands included there are also represented in my stoner rock playlist, as they commonly fit within both the doom- and stoner metal subgenres of music. Stoner/doom is my favorite subgenre of metal, and it typically features slow-to-mid tempos and heavy bass, as well as the common use of guitar effects such as fuzz and phaser.

Cheers!

@TreyAnastasio

i feel like i should enjoy such music but usually when i give a group who identifies as such a try, the vocals are too.. "flat" (i guess) for my taste. I couldnt tell you why growling is more appealing but anyway, unless that is part of the claasification, are there more growly or even melodic stoner/doom bands? Thanks!

Regarding to Stoner Rock Trey I have a song that you might not know

And I'm just the opposite. I'd rather hear James Hatfield or Rob Halford
than someone like Kittie or Screamo band's. The most screaming I can take
I'd slipknot

@HoneyDew2 i dont like screamo per se... here's a list of sing-screaming, variety in talent

I wouldn't call that screaming. That's not a bad playlist. In fact I just followed it.

Lol

Thanks for sharing this stoner rock track, @StompingLlama; it sounds great!

@tynon_1221, I agree that the vocals (or singing) aren’t usually the strong point in stoner/doom metal; I think my current favorite band that has recorded music in this genre, Elder, is a good example of how sometimes I don’t mind if the vocals don’t sound particularly good if I enjoy everything else about the music.

While most of the stoner/doom metal bands that I tend to listen to feature relatively “clean” vocals, there are some bands that I like in this genre that include somewhat growly vocals in their music; here are a few of my favorite tracks of theirs:

There are also a few bands that primarily represent the sludge metal genre in my doom metal playlist as well, since their music incorporates elements of stoner- and doom metal in addition to sludge metal; I think that growly vocals are more common in sludge metal, and you can hear them on these tracks:

As for melodic stoner/doom bands, I think that I find the melodies to be interesting in most of the tracks that I save to my library; however, a few bands come to mind whose songs incorporate melodies that I have gotten stuck in my head, or have tried to play on guitar:

@TreyAnastasio
Much appreciation! I found Black Marble House to be pretty good! Solarishpere got on my "ideal radio" playlist, and so did The Dead Won't Sleep. Planets Collide was hheavyy; I tried Heavy Chase by Demonic Death Judge and it was not as but still great! Did i understand that you meant Elder's vocals might not be so good? Different inflection and whatnot gives them weight - that the singer feels it - by "flat" earlier i meant monotone ("boring delivery is boring") so thanks for sharing proof otherwise!

@Stompingllama
Now my spirits need a little lifting (i know which thread i'm in, beg pardon) so i'll share a song i found while going through Trey's recommendations that got on my sort of "power to the people" list like your GFC one (it's heavy enough to be mistaken for negativity, but s'not at least by the few lyrics i was able to glean)

Hi @tynon_1221, it’s great to hear that you enjoy listening to some of these stoner/doom metal tracks as well! Regarding the vocals in Elder’s music, I think they sound pretty good compared to the vocals of a lot of other bands that I listen to. However, I usually look forward to hearing the other instruments more so than the vocals in Elder's music; I think that the interwoven melodies and heavy riffs in Elder songs take me on a journey throughout each track, and it’s hard for me to imagine the vocals taking precedence over the instruments that create these evocative soundscapes.

Cheers!

This is one Deliciously Epic playlist you got there Elena. Nearly broke my neck from all the head bangs. (Concrete) (Alpha wolf) (fallbrawl) (in hearts wake) (Infected Rain) (Wildways) and the list goes on. Why haven’t I heard this stuff before Followed 🔥 🔥 🔥

Thanks @StompingLlama 🙂 So cool to hear you like the list.

A lot of these bands are new to me as well - one day I stumbled upon this playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/37i9dQZF1DWXV6myh1fJyL and started adding tracks that I liked and the rest is history 😄
