Issue with storage option switching from SD Card to internal

My Question or Issue

This happened with my last phone, Samsung S7 running Oreo (or whatever the most recent OS is) but it was fixed when I got the Moto X4. I like to keep a lot of songs downloaded offline because my service is terrible and I also spend a lot of time in the mountains. Before I I update my phone to the new Android Pie OS there was no problems. Now everytime I reset my phone I think spotify cannot see my SD card at first and tries to download all the music to its internal storage and I have to go back in and tell it to store it in the SD card. That is extremely annyoing but not the end of the world. What is really frustrating is that I think all of the downloaded songs are still on the SD card and just keep redownloading and taking up space. Eventually this will cause me to reformat the card which will be a major pain for me since I store a large amount of photos on there also. Is anyone else have this problem? I have already uninstalled and reinstalled the application so any other suggestions or help?

Lots of people with this problem also own Samsung phones. I too have this problem on my Samsung Galaxy A71. Plus it shows 4 options for storage instead of 2.

Bro this problem is not solved. I'm looking at this in April 2022 the exact issue has not been changed at all.

Keep us posted on the fix that should be on it's way

This definitely sounds plausible as it's definitely not the SD card. However, this does not help address the problem or provide a fix. Are Spotify dev teams looking into how to subvert the storage path issue when/if an SD card is unmounted during an update?

While this is certainly a Spotify problem, I think the issue has something to do with Android 11. I never had this problem until my old phone upgraded from Android 10 to Android 11. It's so annoying that I felt like I had to go out and buy a new phone with 128GB storage, since Spotify didn't like any of the THREE SanDisk 128GB cards I bought to "fix" the issue, and Spotify was taking up 25GB on my old 64GB phone.

No other apps seem to have a problem with any of the micro SD cards I've used... just Spotify.

PHONE: Moto g Stylus 5G (also had same issue with precious Moto g Power.

OS: Android 10/11

Hey @Sporthaas,

Thanks for posting on the Community and welcome.

In this case, we recommend that you check if you have the Samsung Device Care app installed (Settings > Device Care). If so, adjust the settings in order to exclude Spotify from any optimization that may affect your downloads. Since the Device Care app optimizes the device's performance by managing tasks and clearing cache and info, its functions may generate conflicts with Spotify.

Once you do this, we suggest that you log out everywhere. You'll find this option by scrolling down here

Keep us posted.

I have the exact same issue with my Sony Xperia 10 iii.

I have the same issue, Samsung A52S Android 12. I have forced the app to install onto the SD card to see if it resolves the issue, though this will likely cause other issues! Absolutely ridiculous that this has been an ongoing issue for years. Simply wait for the SD card to mount correctly after a cold restart (The data verification makes no difference)

Update July 2022:

forcing the app to install onto the SD card resolves the issue as the app can't start before the SD card is mounted.

@user-removed: Add a simple to check to wait to wait for the SD card to mount before downloading anything and add an option to pause downloads.

Hey mods, is there going to be a fix for this or we holding out for the 1year anniversary of this post?

Having the same issue on my Samsung S20 FE.

Absolutely ridiculous that this bug has been left unaddressed for literal years. Very much considering switching to another service
