Distortion on web player, same music sounds fine on desktop app

I recently released an album on Spotify. When I play the tracks in desktop player on my laptop, they sound fine. However, when I play them through the web player (with the desktop app closed) there is notable distortion, particularly on highs - cymbal/high-hat sounds, for instance, are distorted and the overall sound suffers considerably. The same audio played through any other player (including the Spotify desktop app) - on the same laptop - is fine. Have tried the web player is both Chrome and Firefox and the problem persists.

Can't figure out why this is - I assume Spotify uses the same source files for desktop app and web player, so why is the web player distorting the sound so badly?
