My Question or Issue

I listen to my saved playlists with smart shuffle on.

When listening to saved playlist then switching to another Bluetooth device or the phone speaker, the same line up of songs I have just listened to start playing in the reverse order.

How do I stop that so I can continue listening to songs I haven't just been listening to.

Same issue. Latest version of Spotify on my up-to-date Pixel 8. I have this problem if I shuffle my liked songs on my Pixel, and then the next day play via Spotify Web in my office. Then again when I go to my car.

I have been experiencing this issue for months and it is very frustrating.

Edit:

1. Android Auto plays via Bluetooth

2. When I listen at home, which is what I was referring to when I said my Pixel 8, I actually cast my music to my Google Nest speakers. The Nest devices and their apps are fully up-to-date.

3. In my office, I *had* been playing to a speaker via aux cord. Just yesterday I changed my setup and now use Bluetooth. This did not improve the issue.

Since the issue began many months ago, I have rebooted my phone, computer, car, and Nest devices many times (not for this issue, just in general).

I have not taken any troubleshooting steps, though I'm all ears if you have any recommendations. I won't go through pointless & laborious tasks like reinstalling the apps on each of my devices, since this happens cross-platform. I would not be able to screen-record the issue as it occurs across devices, but it seems to me like everyone here described the issue in detail.

Thank you!

Happens to me as well. Android auto in my VW passat. Not sure exactly when it started but it was definitely fine in early October. I didn't do any updates to the car so it's either Spotify or android itself - I recall some update recently.

It also seems to reproduce only on one of my playlist, oldest and largest one, of that helps.

Hey folks,

Thanks for joining the thread and for sending us your details.

We've reported this behavior to the relevant team and they'll be taking a look. As soon as we have any updates we'll let you know.

In the meantime, it'd be very helpful with the investigation if you could share the required info by @AlejaR here. Appreciate your cooperation!

Have a good one 🙂

The exact same thing is happening in my car. No Android auto and I just fixed the bug where it would save a song place and circle back to that song every time the app was opened afterwards.

Same thing happening to me when connecting Spotify on my phone to my Bluetooth headphones.

Pretty clear this is happening to plenty of people across different devices and in different scenarios

Hello, I have this exact same issue in my 2011 Nissan Altima. When I connect to the bluetooth in my car, my playlist will start playing backwards. Essentially, if I just listened to a song and went to the next one before getting the car, when the song I just started is over it will go back and play that song I listened to before it. If that makes sense. Any help or tips to stop this would be great because it often messes up having something on shuffle because it begins playing the songs I already listened to and I have to start the shuffle over or listen to the same songs again in reverse order.

I also have the same issue in my 2024 Outlander. When I connect to Android Auto I will select the most recent song at the top of my playlist and hit play and instead of going to the 2nd, 3rd, 4th songs in order it starts playing the last song in the playlist and running backwards. The only fix I've had is to open the app on my phone. Select a song from the playlist in the app on my phone and only then do the songs start to play in the correct order.

Been happening to me for months, specially after connecting to android auto.

In my car I listen to song: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. Turn off my car.

Next time I play spotify the exact songs will play in reverse: 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1

Same problem for me for months. If the connection (Bluetooth) is disconnected between the phone and the car radio because of turning off the car, Spotify reconnects after turning on the car, will finish it last song and will flip the playlist and starts playing backwards.

Phone: Android

Radio: Pioneer

Sidenote: multiple devices are connected to Bluetooth (phone) at the same time.

My Question or Issue

When I click on a specific song in a playlist while using Android Auto after I go back to the playlist to select another song it always reverts back to the top of the playlist. This is especially frustrating while driving as I need to scroll all the way back to the spot in the playlist in order to select another song. How do I force the playlist to stay at the selected song after I go back into the playlist to select another song?

Hey there folks,

Thanks for all your replies and for the info shared.

Would you mind letting us know if you've experienced this recently? If yes, please let us know along with:

  • The make/model and OS of the affected devices.

Same issue here. The order in the playlist is not the order of the played songs.

Hey there, @caseb,

Thanks for joining the thread!

Based on the screenshot you've provided, it appears that you're listening on an external speaker. Could you test if the issue persists when listening locally on the desktop app / Web Player (i.e. when you're disconnected from the speaker)?

It's also worth checking if there are any leftover songs in the queue from a previous listening session and if there are, you can remove them with the Clear queue button.

Let us know how it goes 👍

when NOT listening on an external speaker, the playlist equals the played songs (in reverse order). so the issue is only present when music is played on an external speaker

the queue is the same as the playlist:

Hi Yordan, my replies were posted in an other thread, and now moved to this one. The songs in my daily mix are not played in backward order, as posted above. Only when played on an external speaker, the list is mixed up, even though the shuffle mode is not turned on. Is that a known issue?

  • Pixel 6a with OS Android 15
  • Latest version of Spotify android app
  • The connected Bluetooth device is a generic no-brand item, but when connected it effects the phone and same issue occurs on multiple bluetooth devices.

My Question or Issue

when playing a song, and connected to my Google nest ( however it happens regardless), if I choose to change from shuffle to smart or just normal order, it glitches out and just gives a random choice and it’s soooooooooo annoying, still fixable with perseverance but yeah

Hey folks,

Thanks for all the info you've sent so far.

@caseb@lolitsnathan123, if you're still experiencing this, could you send us the info @AlejaR requested above?

@andrewscooke, could you check the exact Spotify version your phone's running? You can see it by going to Settings > About

We'll be waiting for your replies.
