My Question or Issue

About half a month ago my Spotify app started not being able to connect to the internet when on mobile data while the rest of my phone apps and sites would be able to use mobile data without issue. I have tried clearing cache, deleting app data, making sure it's not in offline mode, reinstalling the app, deleting the com.spotify folder, and making sure there are no data/battery restrictions on the app in android settings. The app works fine on Wifi but not mobile data. Did a recent update break it or am I missing something?

Its been about a week to 2 weeks now and i havent been able to play new episodes of my favorite podcasts. A problem ive never had since being a Spotify Subscriber. Since i listen to Spotify at work, i have never used my buildings Public Unsecured Wi-Fi Network connection, so i know thats never been an issue.

The app would 100 percent of the time work, with no problems or playback issues, whether it was on 5G, 5GLTE OR LTE. When i began to notice and winder why i kept getting "Network Failed to Connect" message, i began to immediately look for a solution. Since then i have done everything that Spotify and the Community had suggested and guess what the problem is still not solved. Even right now as my phone is connected to my homes Wi-Fi, i still get the "Network Connection Failed to play this content" message. So what am i doing wrong Spotify? What am i missing here?

So now ill give the full details on what device i use the app on.

Iphone 12

ios Version 18.2.1

Phone Settings (Cellular Data Options)

Cellular Data: ON

Cellular Data Roaming: Roaming On

Voice and Data: 5G Auto

Data Mode: Allow more Data on 5g

Background App Refresh: ON

Spotify Background App Refresh: On

Yes i do use a VPN and have never had any issues/problems with the Spotify app not playing/working while VPN was active/connected. So its not my VPN.

Spotify Version: 9.0.2.419 and as of this writing, no new updates to install.

My Spotify Settings

Data Saver: Off and has always been off (Dont care how much data is used i have an unlimited data plan)

Playback: Offline and has always been that way. (Never had an issue with this option)

 Audio Quality. Streaming.

Wi-Fi Streaming: Has always been Set to automatic. (Never had an issue here)

Cellular Streaming: Has always been set to Automatic (Never had an issue here)

Optimize Listening

Auto Adjust Quality: Switched to ON (Never had an issue here)

Download: Set to normal, always has been (Never had an issue here)

Download using Cellular Data: Always been set into the ON position ( never had a problem Here)

Video Quality:  Both options have always been set to Medium (Never had any issues here)

I have cleared the cache, removed downloaded content, Off loaded the app, i have disabled and re enabled and disabled and reenabled offline option and nothing seems to have fixed my problem. So please SPOTIFY, tell me what i am doing wrong or missing cause i cant seem to find a way to fix this. I just want to listen to my music again at work.

Same problem here. I am on Android 15. As far as I know the problem occurred about two days ago. My geolocation is Italy. I have noticed that the app seems to work fine when I am connected to WiFi. When I am using 5G it is not loading anything. My Internet connection works perfectly well however. I can watch YouTube, TikTok and so on...

I am having the same issue since about May this year on a Samsung Galaxy S22

Hey folks,

Thanks for posting in this thread! As we're seeing a few reports about the issue persisting over time, it's possible that it's related to specific setups. However, to make sure we cover all bases, there are a few things we can recommend:

  • Update the device's OS, as well as the Spotify app.
  • Check the device's data/streaming settings.
  • Ensure all permissions are enabled for Spotify.
  • Turn off any battery optimization/power saving options,
  • Change the app's audio quality settings (for example, if it's currently set to High you can switch to Low or Automatic).
  • Switch off any VPN you're using.
  • Change the APN Protocol. Steps can be found in this reply from @Yordan.
  • Check Background App Refresh
  • Resetting your mobile network settings.
  • Try a clean reinstall of the app.
  • For iOS: Make sure the Cellular button is enabled for Spotify app in iPhone settings.

Should the issue persist after checking these steps, make sure to reach out to your internet service provider as well, so they can have a closer look too.

Cheers!
