Let’s hope their right, some people were told the same more then a week ago.
But there’s hope and that’s good, I will wait with my planned actions.
It looks like a Bose -> Google thing (Bose itself has no problem playing from Spotify or TuneIn) and if Alexa indeed works this confirms that.
But whatever it is, let’s hope they make it work again,
Thank you for your update about this, it brings back hope 😁.
Ok I might have resolved the issue myself!!! 🙂 Google assistant is working again..for now! Here is what I did (in the following order).
1) On bose app. I removed spotify service and, unliked google assistant service. The former has to be done by clicking profile settings, and the latter via the device settings (cog wheel) after clicking on device icon. The bose app is weird having settings for account and devices on different pages.
2) Then I removed my device from the app(under profile settings) and signed out. Deleted the app after deleting the cache (on android). Deleting cache and data need not be done I guess, but I did it before I deleted the app anyways.
3)On Google Home app, I clicked on profile pic on top right corner-->home app settings-->clear app locations (may be this is what did the trick).
4) Again go back and open "assistant setting"-->Music settings-->click 'No default" and unlink all services.
5) Go back to google home app main screen. Make sure no devices are seen. This should be the case once you have already unliked google from bose app.
6) Delete google home app. Again, you can deleted data and cache (android) before deleting.
7) Login to spotify account (web) and unlink Google and bose. (it has to be done from spotify's side as well). Then click 'sign out from everywhere"
😎Do a factory reset of your Bose device (in home speaker 500 hold AUX and volume done until the screen goes blank).
9) Meanwhile, disconnect your internet router from power for atleast 30 secs and power back on (also may have done the trick).
10) I restarted my phone and Reinstalled Google Home and Bose music apps on the phone.
11) Open Bose app--> Sign in to bose account -->setup your device to connect to wifi (ONLY). Click "start listening" button. Don't setup any services yet (spotify/google assistant). Now, at this juncture I tried updating the bose device by holding bluetooth button and volume down for 10 secs. I don't think it updated and may be skipped.
12) Next, in the bose app home screen (don't click on the device icon)--> Profile settings (right upper corner with a tiny human ;))-->Manage music service-->add spotify service (link to bose app). Do this before you link spotify to google. Again not sure if that is an issue, but thats what I did.
13) I then went back to bose Home screen and clicked on the device icon and played something on spotify to check if I have linked.
14) While the speaker is playing directly from spotify through bose app, I then went to settings of the device (cog wheel on right upper corner), -->voice assitant-->google assistant. Then set it up as prompted. Note: since we have reinstalled the google home app, the app permissions for location, bluetooth needs to be granted. If it fails to connect or proceed, just start setting up google assistant from bose app again. Also, I did not add my bose device to any "rooms" (groups) during setup when it asked me whether I wanted to.
15) Link spotify and other services to google home app during the setup. Once done it will take you back to Bose app which should say "all done".
16) Try saying the commands and it should work.
Note:
In google home app, under "assistant settings" and in "Home control" you should see "bose Music" linked. If not, search for bose, and link it.
P.S I don’t think one needs to do all these. Try step 3 and 9 along with unlinking/relinking services.
I’ve tried sort of the same last week except the clear app locations in the Google home app. I’ll give that a try first, maybe the solution is that easy 😬.
I'm thinking very straight forward now:
if you now give a command to the Google Assistant in the Bose speaker, you would think that the apps on the phone don't matter. However, a connection must be made in the apps and permission must be given. Once this is done the apps shouldn't matter anymore and everything is done from the speaker (Google commands can also be given when the phone is not on or on the network I think).
we will never know what the real problem is I think, as long as it’s solved.
thanks again for your solution, will try soon, hope it works for more people.
okay, just thought let’s try if it works, and guess what…
It works again, Bose is listening to my commands (by using Google assistant).
No update was done so I think somewhere in a setting at a server at Bose something was set wrong.
Let’s hope it keeps on working and it now works for everyone (maybe pull the power plug for 10 seconds).
thank you all for your cooperation in this matter
Yes, problem seems solved today, so our speaker works as normal again. Great job, folks, who has pushed Bose for a solution!!
Great to hear! Now just waiting to get my Bose returned from their shop to test it out. 🙂
Me too!
My Google Assistant on Bose smart speaker 500 loses wifi connection after a few hours. Even though my router is indicating the speaker has the full five wifi bars strength. The preset buttons linked to my Spotify playlists never loose wifi. When I swith to Alexa, it too is stable and never drops wifi. What is Google up to? Bose and Google need to sort this out..
