Support for SmartDeviceLink (SDL) vs. Ford's AppLink technology?

Hello Spotify and community,

since the Spotify mobile app supports Ford's AppLink technology for integration with Ford in-vehicle infotainment systems [1], I was wondering (from a developer's point of view) if the Spotify mobile app provides the same feature set via the SmartDeviceLink (SDL) technology to any adopter by default? If not, what are the limitations (e.g. licensing) and how would be the official procedure to overcome?

Background: SmartDeviceLink (SDL) and AppLink technology are related. From [2]: "Ford contributed SDL to the open source community in 2013 and is continuing to lead the effort for adoption and improvement of the standard. Ford’s latest infotainment offering, SYNC 3, comes equipped with AppLink, powered by SDL."
