My Question or Issue

Everytime I press the play button on the spotify online app, a pop-up shows up saying "Je boekt vooruitgang" (You are making progress), and it send me to the getting started section for Spotify.

When trying to complete the 5 steps, none of them register and complete the steps and it just keeps popping up. I have tried re-logging, but that did not work.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Same here, the mobile app does not have the problem. It only shows up on desktop.

Hey there folks,

Thanks for all your replies here and for the info shared.

We'd like to continue investigating this behavior. In that sense, we'll need you to send us some additional info. Please share with us:

  • A video recording of this behavior. You can attach the videos in your next reply in mp4 format, or upload them to YouTube or Google Drive and make them public.
Note: Be aware this is a public space, so please don't share any personal info on the videos you'll send us. Make sure to blur up any personal details
  • All the browsers you've used to test this along with the exact versions you're running.
  • Does this happen on both the desktop app and web player?
  • If this is happening on the desktop app, send us the exact version you're running.
  • All the troubleshooting steps you've tried so far.
  • Did you notice if this started to happen after a specific event such as an OS update?
  • Does this happen on a different account on the affected device? You could ask for the account of a relative or a friend to check. If not possible, you could also create a free test account, but bear in mind you'll need to use it for a while to check if this happens there.

We understand some of you have already sent us some of this info, so please make sure to check what info is missing and share it with us. That way, we'll have a better idea of what exactly is happening in each case.

Keep us in the loop!

- tested on the mac os application (Spotify for macOS (Apple Silicon) 1.2.72.438.g8c88c31c) and the web player on mozilla firefox (142.0.1 (aarch64)) and safari (Version 18.6 (20621.3.11.11.3)).

- i tried reinstalling the app, logging out and signing in again

- this is a new account, my old one did not have this issue (haven't used spotify since a couple months though)

- i created a test account and the issue persists

- Could not get the video working but it is the exact same as @torchbearer but with Dutch language settings

- Google Chrome 140.0.7339.81 and 140.0.7339.128 both official builds and 64-bits; Firefox Version 142.0.1 (64-bit), for some reason the making progress pop-up does not show on Firefox (Firefox has English language settings).

- The issue shows up on the web player and the desktop app (Windows 11 Enterprise 24H2)

- I tested a new account and it had the same problem and tried logging in and out and had the same problem

          - Different devices did not make a difference

- Did not specifically notice it happening after an update, but I think it was after a Spotify update

- On the new account it did also not register any of my actions when following the 'Getting started' steps

Hey folks,

Thanks for the additional info and your help so far.

We've now forwarded this to our tech team who'll investigate further. We'll let you know in this thread once we have news to share.

Cheers,
