Why is shuffle playing the same songs repeatedly on a 48hr+ long playlist

Why is shuffle playing the same songs repeatedly on a 48hr+ long playlist

On Linux Android and Windows the app just does not shuffle It only plays about the same 15 or 20 songs occasionally throws in one more and just repeats. I don't know if this is tailored content that's getting ad revenue or what. If I can't shuffle a 40+hour playlist and not hear the same song four times in a day I'm canceling the service. This is ridiculous, there's no answers from anywhere, no help chat. Go ask the community, give us 10$

Hey @JLHinton1996,

Thanks for reaching out. We're sorry to hear you're having issues enjoying your music, we'll do our best to help!

Is this happening with a specific playlist? If yes, can you please try copying its contents to a new one and see if the issue persists?

As stated above, it would also be helpful if you could send us a video showing the behavior.

Cheers,

Hi @FlibertyGibbit123
Thanks for contacting our community!
This sounds like some kind of glitch. Can you try a few basic troubleshooting steps to see if it will make a difference? You can try to turn off the shuffle function and turn it on again, log out of the app and log back in, restart your devices etc.
If that doesn't help it would be very helpful if you can share the exact models, OS versions and the Spotify App versions of your devices so we can investigate this further.

Let us know how it goes!

I'm glad it's not just me, my main playlist is over 7000 songs, 433hr long. When I use smart shuffle it "latches" on to a specific album and will play shuffled songs but every 2nd or 3rd song will be from that latched on album. I find it happens less with standard shuffle but even then it still plays the most popular songs and ones I come to recognise as common ones. There are 7000+ songs, I should start to notice the same songs coming on!

My Question or Issue
Everyday I play my like song's playlist on smart shuffle or normal shuffle and it does not change the queue of my songs. Yes it plays in different pattern but everytime i want to hear a new song I press my play button with shuffle feature and it plays the same pattern over an over. As for example: I press play: 1.SONG 5 2.SONG3 3.SONG 7. And when i press play again it goes like 1.SONG 5 2.SONG3 3.SONG 7. Why on every playlist is the same thing ?

Only playing a portion of my 554 songs in liked songs playlist. Getting to point where I want to delete repetative songs!

any solution yet? seems to be a desktop app problem primarily. smart shuffle through favorite songs isn't working / always repeats in the same order. would be nice and appropriate to get some support for this!

Mine is on the Android app, I should have added that 🤣🤦‍♂️

Doesn’t work.   I’ve had this issue ongoing for years. Ridiculous.

For last 9-12 months on Android a bias to play the same 30-ish songs from a 400 song playlist.  Some fixes to break the loop have been to delete cache, reinstall app, and sometimes click a song from the playlist while in shuffle loop.  Each of these seems to be a temporary fix for the bias to return to the same subset of songs.

I'm having the same problem. On their playlists...a song plays...and then repeats. Has happened on multiple playlists.

Same here, why are you only playing 150 songs in my 3000 song playlist? Extremely annoying. DJ is also very biased and plays the same **bleep** basically over and over.

I have this same issue all the time when I use “smart” shuffle, never fails to play the same order of songs on the playlist. Why even have the DJ on Spotify if this is just going to do the same algorithm based thing? My automix feature is turned off, I try manually starting with a different song, turning shuffle off and on, nothing works. How hard can it be to just se lt something to random? Was hoping to come here for answers but all I see is a lot of Spotify saying, try these dumb steps to fix it yourself or send us a video… if I spent 5 minutes on google and see it’s happening all over this obviously isn’t something on the user’s end. What is the status of fixing this because I’m cancelling my subscription soon due to this if it’s not fixed, it’s ridiculous to pay for this Spotty-fy

I agree.  There are songs in my playlist that have not been played for more than 100 hours of playing.  Ridiculous.  All we are asking for it to play every song in a list randomly until every one is played, then shuffle and start again, playing every song until a song repeats.

Hi everyone,

I was driven mad because I kept hearing a specific song over and over again. Everyday. Within the duration of my shower it would play several times when I have 1000 songs + in the playlist. I could NOT hear it anymore so I decided to delete it. I went into my playlist and typed the title to find it faster... There were DOZENS of this one song within my playlist!!!!!! I kept scrolling and scrolling and I kept seeing the same title duplicated. It blew my mind. I spent 5 minutes manually removing every duplicate while fuming! There used to be a function that prevented you from adding the same song twice and now, when I KNOW I didn't add this Pit Bacardi song 100 times myself, it was there, ruining my listening experience... So now I wonder if I have more occurrences of this in my playlist. But I won't know until I feel harassed by a song again !

Just thought I'd share so maybe others could check for duplicates as well.

Good luck to all the music lovers ~

I have the same issue, my own playlists always focus on shuffling artists I’ve recently listened to, but I don’t want this. I heard it was a change Spotify intended to make, but I can’t see why people would want this as it just oversaturates you with the same music over and over. I want variety… Spotify please return playlist shuffle so it truly shuffles.

Same problem here! AND ITS RUINING MY LIFE

someone replied before to disable automix. i am going to give it a try. i work for 10 hrs listening to music, so the last couple of days have been driving me insane with the constant repeat of songs. i will report back, lets hope this helps! lol

This - in my opinion - is the most serious flaw in Spotify. I have
playlists of several hundred songs, but playing them randomly forces me to
listen to the top 20 or 30 over and over again.... all we request is to
play the entire list randomly and not repeat a song until all have been
played. Does not seem that it should be so difficult. Terry Hunefeld, San
Diego

Turn off automix in your playback settings, and your problem should be mostly resolved. Been suffering from the same fate as you guys for years, and saw a Reddit post about it. Seems to have mostly worked thus far.

Specific playlist? Try every single one. No matter what I try, I get some "made for you" message and it's the same few songs over and over again. How about you guys figure out that if we choose a playlist, it's the LISTED SONGS we'd like to listen to, not the tiny list your algorithm thinks are our favourites.

Yep noticed the same, driving 30hrs a week with a 63hr playlist I shouldn't be hearing the same songs every day... But I am??

Also noticed no moderators have replied in this thread since 2023! So what's the deal Spotify? You just don't care? Do we just turn this thread into a list of recommended alturnatives to Spotify that will play randomly? Anyone got any suggestions?

I see others in this thread have threatened to quit Spotify and stop paying for a premium service that's sub standard... I'm also close to that point

#MakeRandomRandom

Guys, just so you know. Last time I reported this issue to the support, all the different persons I talked too a. thought I misunderstood the "random" feature and that I just didn't like their algorithm b. or suggested that I make my "suggestion for upgrade" in this community... so yea, good luck with an improvement to come...
