local files not appearing

local files not appearing

i’ve got everything set up. local file sharing is allowed, it’s allowed in my settings on the phone, i’ve even got 50 gigs of icloud storage, yet for whatever reason i have no local files folder. saw somewhere it’s gotta be legally acquired, two of them are from the clancy digital remains bundle on the twenty one pilots website and the other is my own audio file for my song i’ve produced and recorded w my friend. everything is good for them to share they just won’t 😕

I'm using this to mark a new issue, because ya'll have made it next to impossible to create a new post.

Local Files don't work on spotify, I can't listen to a song that I've downloaded from my google drive (yes it's an mp3 file), and no matter what folder I put it in, I even add new folders to put the song in, Spotify won't recognize the source.

The Local Files won't acknowledge the MP3 file or any file in the folder, it constantly shows there's 0 tracks even though that's not true.

This might be too late but the only way to get your playlists back is by checking your account, there’s a place where it’s labelled “deleted playlists”, if it’s still there your lucky, if not I’m sorry I tried to help

Not working for me. Only downloaded this today and same problem. Spotify seem to have had this problem for a year now and clearly they have no clue or no attempt to fix it. What an actual joke but to be expected with modern technology in this day and age. Will delete the app and go back to an old 2005 MP3 player. At least they actually worked

Hey folks,

Jumping in here with some clarifications on local files.

In order for the local files to show on your device, you need to follow the steps below.

Mobile:

Spoiler
  1. Go to Settings > Apps and devices > and switch on 'Local audio files';
  2. Allow Spotify the necessary permissions to read the files:
    - for Android: go to your Android settings > Apps > Spotify > Permissions and allow 'Files and media', as well as 'Photos and videos'.
    - for iOS: go to your iOS settings > Privacy & Security and allow 'Media and Apple Music' for Spotify.
  3. [iOS only] The files need to be stored in / moved to the dedicated 'Spotify' folder, located in the Files app > On My iPhone/iPad.

Desktop:

Spoiler
  1. Go to Settings > Your Library and activate 'Show local files'.
  2. Select 'Add a source' to select a the source folder where your local files are located. You can add multiple sources, if necessary.
  3. The Local files playlist in Your Library will now be populated with songs from the selected sources which you can add to your other playlists.

A couple of notes:

  • Local files from a cloud aren't supported yet, so the files need to be present on the device's storage. There's an idea about this here, check it out if you're interested.
  • It used to be possible to sync local files across devices on the same network by downloading the playlist directly. This is now a legacy feature which may no longer work as intended, so it's highly recommended you use one of the methods above to ensure proper functionality.
  • If a local file is playable when accessed from the common 'Local files' playlist, but is greyed out in one of your personal playlists, it worth removing it from the personal playlist and adding it again from the common 'Local files' one to force a resync.
  • Cross-device playback: In order for the files to be playable across your mobile and desktop devices, the same files have to be physically stored both on your phone and PC, so you may need to manually upload them to the other device, if you haven't already.

Hope this clears things up. Cheers 🤘
