Family account for location

Solved!

Family account for location

Hi, all,

I have a somewhat complex question about Premium for Family.

My account is registered in Germany because of a German credit card, but I am currently residing in South Africa with my family members and want to invite them to a family plan – how do I do this?

Another one of my family members, now also here in South Africa, has a free Spotify account in Taiwan. How do I invite her to my family plan? She can't seem to change her location to Germany to join either (the location is greyed out).

Best regards,

A frustrated digital nomad

It'll always keep the same address, and the only way to change the address is to create a brand new account.

I do understand that you all reside in Germany sometimes. You can all use the Family plan while in Germany, but all family members will be removed from the plan when you are all back in South Africa because the system will see that the address and country doesn't match.

Spotify hasn't launched in South Africa yet, so I can't really provide any more help than that.

Hey @TheTaiwanese,

Unfortunately, they won't be able to join the Family plan because Spotify hasn't launched in South Africa yet.

You will be able to invite the family members that reside in Germany when you're back in Germany.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Hi Maxim,

Thanks for your quick reply. No South African users can join – got it.

How about family members with free US and free Taiwan Spotfify accounts? How can they join my family plan on my German account?

Do they change their payment details to include a German credit card so their location can be moved to Germany?

If yes, how do they do that? Do they go through the usual Premium purchasing process? Doesn't that lead to their puchasing a Premium account?

Thanks!

"How about family members with free US and free Taiwan Spotfify accounts? How can they join my family plan on my German account?"

They cannot because the country setting doesn't match with yours. Please note that all members of a Premium for Family plan have to reside at the same physical address as the plan owner.

That may work, but I wouldn't be so sure about that. There's no need to try this all if they don't reside at the same physical address in Germany.

Yes & yes.

Hi Maxim,

My family members with US and Taiwan free Spotfiy accounts do reside at the same physical address as I do – here in South Africa.

I am looking for a way for them to change their location to Germany – and join my family plan – without having to pay for Premium themselves, since the family plan allows for six members.

Can they change their locations to Germany without signing up for a Premium account?

Please advise.

Thanks!

I don't think that'll work because Spotify hasn't launched in South Africa yet.

For example, if you use a payment method from the UK, you can only set an UK address and all members must reside at the same address in the UK. They can't use a UK payment method to run a Family plan in Germany. They would need to have a German payment method for that.

Ah, I see! So the physical address also needs to be in Germany.

Unfortunately, I see Spotify doesn't let me change the physical address unless I create a new account?

If I cancel the family plan, wait until it expires and then restart the family plan, will it eventually prompt me to enter a new physical address?

Right, but you just mentioned that you and your family members reside in South Africa, not in Germany, so that wouldn't really work.

The best thing is to just wait until Spotify has launched in South Africa. That would resolve all issues.

Thanks, Maxim.

We reside together at the same address in South Africa and in Germany when we move, which we do often, so if the physical address needs to be in the same country as the card, is there a way for me to change my physical address after the family plan expires? Or will it keep my previous address details?

That's very clear now.

Thanks so much for answering what otherwise might be basic and silly questions. 🙂

All the best!

No problem at all @TheTaiwanese!

Lastly, please note that all family members would have to reach out to Spotify Support if they want to get back into the plan when they're back in Germany so a manual verification can be done to make sure that they're really in Germany.
