Family account with both users having same email address

This prevents a second account from being opened in my wifes name, therefore we can't listen to different playlists at the same time.  Defeats to whole purpose.

Hey Rick, you two must have different Spotify accounts in order to listen to songs independently. Naturally, a Spotify account can only cater one person at a time. You can create a separate account then invite that one to the Family Premium. I assure you, it won't take that long.

Thanks for the reply, my problem is that she doesn't have or want a separate email account and i can't set up a new account with the same email address

Unfortunately having the same email-address is not possible. That's the only way you can do it, create a new email address. Please give it a try and let me know if that works.
