Voice assistant using my account, can't listen to anything else

Voice assistant using my account, can't listen to anything else

I am a college student and not living at home. Sometimes, I get connected to my home devices if my family is using them at the same time.
I can't listen to my stuff at the same time as they are because Spotify is using my account for all the Spotify people want to play in the house. I've removed Alexa's access to my profile, logged out, logged back in, deleted the app and redownloaded it, and have repeatedly pressed "forget device" with no luck.

Does anyone know anything else I can do to change this, short of getting my own account?

Hi there,

Thanks for the post.

This is happening because your Spotify account is still linked to the Amazon profile connected to the Alexa speaker at your house.

Your family members will need to unlink your account from that Amazon profile. You can send them this reply with the step-by-step guide so that they can unlink your account. If you have access to the Amazon Alexa app on your device, you can do this too. Afterwards they'd need to link another one of the family member accounts to the Amazon profile (click here for more info), so that they can listen to music on the speaker, without interrupting your streaming.

Disconnect Your Spotify Account From the Alexa App

  • Open the Alexa on your mobile app
  • Tap Settings.
  • Then, under Alexa Preferences, tap Music & Podcasts.

Disconnect Spotify Alexa

  • There, you will find a lists all music streaming services currently connected to your Alexa app (you will also find a Link New Service option to link another streaming account), find and tap Spotify.

Disconnect Spotify Alexa

  • Tap the Disable Skill button on the Spotify details page.

Disconnect Spotify Alexa

  • Finally, tap disable on the confirmation page.

Disconnect Your Spotify Account From Spotify Web

  • From your preferred web browser on either Mac or a windows PC, navigate to Spotify’s website and log in with your Spotify account.

  • Tap on the Profile icon (with your name). Its at the top-right corner of your screen. Then select Account.

  • Scroll down to the bottom and tap Apps from the left side.
  • A list of all the apps with access to your Spotify account will be displayed, Find Alexa and then click Remove Access.

Hope this helps 🙂
