First of all, the fact that I have to post on a community board for payment plan help is an absolute joke. Unbelievable, in fact. Why is there no email address, live chat, or phone number?

 

My Question or Issue

A month ago my year of spotify student lapsed and I was charged full price. No problem, my mistake. Thus, I re-verified my student status (doing that SheerID stuff), and my account states this is now valid until 9/12/24. However, once again, I have been charged full premium price - why?

Thanks for coming to the Community.

 

After verifiying yourself as a student, you'll also need to activate the discount, as can be seen here ("Choose Your Plan"):

To activate the discount now, you'll need to open www.spotify.com/student again and follow the steps until the end. 🙂

Why on earth would the discount state it is valid but then I have to go through a further step to activate it? What a ridiculous and sneaky thing for Spotify to do. In fact, I'm sure I had done this. Spotify should refund me the difference between premium and student, but seeing as they don't even have a way to contact them, I think I will go to google music or youtube premium instead after 10+ years of Spotify.

The Student discount and the Premium Student subscription are two different things and in order to pay the discounted price, every user has to also change their subscription to Premium Student after verifying their student status. 🙂

 

If you've been charged full price even after getting the discount, and believe you're eligible for a refund, then feel free to reach out to Support so that they can look into this.

Thanks again for your reply. What is the point in having a student discount that is separate from the premium student subscription, other than to scoop up extra money when my situation happens. Completely bizarre!

I just availed the student premium plan, but I got charged even though it’s my first time getting premium and on a free trial. 

Spotify says the first month is free, and users will be charged after their free trial has expired. I am confused as to why they decided to charge me.

Hello, I have a problem with my account, I had a student plan but some time ago it charged me as a standard plan and now when I try to renew it says that the offer is already redeemed, I don't know how to renew the plan, because I understand that every 12 months it must be done, but that time was fulfilled some time ago and I didn't receive any mail, thanks for your help.

I reverified my student discount for another year (10.07.2024) but still I was charged 4.99 (17.07.2024).

Unfortunately, I never received an email (it might have landed in my spam folder) informing me that I needed to re-verify my Spotify student subscription, and as a result, I have been paying the full price for the past six months. I also didn't notice this sooner as I was deeply involved in my studies. I would like to ask if it is possible to get at least a partial refund if I can provide proof of my student status.

I was subscribed to a premium student plan but it had changed and i got charged for a premium individual plan. please fix this and reimburse my money.

I did the Spotify premium plan, and got verified with no problem, even now it says: You're verified as a student until: 9/18/2025. I just found out I have been paying full price, no discount at all. (in my country, Italy, the student price is 5.99 and I've been paying still 10.99)
