Private messages

Could someone tell this new person to Spotify (me) how one goes about sending/receiving private messages? I read on how to do so but I can't find the envelope it mentioned.

I just got the latest version of Spotify where I can now see what I have sent my friends in the "Messages" section. But the album icons are WAY to big so I can't easily scroll through or view my inbox playlist. Is there a way to change the format to a list again?

idk, i just cant see any "create message" or sth button at the messages tab

You need to send a track to start a conversation with someone. Right click a track/album/playlist > Share > Send To > Enter their name.
