Spotify Family for Teenagers (12+)

We meant to switch to Spotify Premium today after years of using YT Premium. After subscribing, I noticed that Spotify won’t let me create accounts for the kids (12 + 15) as they are too young to have their own accounts (minimum age 16+ in Germany).

So I checked out the Spotify Kids app and immediately noticed it is tailored towards younger kids age 10 , maximum 12. It shows Pokemon, Sponge Bob and such on there. My teenagers would never use that and see it as embarrassing. 

Spotify support confirmed there is no other offer for kids aged 12+ - so I cancelled my subscription and got a refund. Under these circumstances, Spotify Family is not for us.

I am shocked that Spotify is incapable or unwilling to provide a tailored experience for teenagers, but ‘hides’ behind local legislation. All other ‘big players’ - like YouTube, Amazon, Playstation, EPIC, have offers for teenagers and proper parental control in place. 

The kids wanted us to move to Spotify and are now disappointed. The only option for parents seems to lie about their age when registering with Spotify - which would be a violation of their terms and conditions. I decided not to support such a business model, so now extended our YT Family subscription. 

It’s a shame and I’d really urge Spotify to reconsider it’s policy or come up with a proper offer for 12+ family members.
