Spotify Star Jam 2023: Question of the day - Hidden Gems

Hey everyone,

It's our favourite time of the day – the Question of the Day!

Today, we're diving deep into the world of hidden musical treasures. Imagine, just for a moment, you had a magic button. With one press, you could make any song skyrocket to the top of every streaming platform. So, here's our burning question:

🎵"You're given the power to instantly make any song go viral on all streaming platforms. Which hidden gem would you spotlight?" 🪄

I'll kick things off: I recently had the pleasure of hearing Kellie Loder perform live at a concert for the Canada Games in PEI this past February. I loved her song "Fearless", and I've been listening to it ever since! Not only is it a beautiful track, but it also served as the theme song for the coverage of the last Olympics here in Canada 🇨🇦

Now, it's your turn. Whether it's that indie track you stumbled upon late one night or a nostalgic tune from your past, we want to hear about it! Share your musical gems below and let's discover some new tunes together!

Keep the beats coming and happy listening! 🎧

This would be mine. Really one of the best old-school psychedelic bands out there!

Uhhh! That album of Masters of Reality is a Jem! I love "Rabbit One"

This wasn't easy. Normally when someone asks for new music/hidden gems I'd toss together an "all over the place" small assorted playlist of artists. Trying to narrow down a lifetime of music to pick ONE song to highlight here proved more stressful than I'd like to admit 😂. Regardless, this is one of my personal favorites in the 'good vibes hip hop' category.

I'm a bit late to this party but I always love participating in these so I'm gonna post anyway. Awesome question too!

I would definitely choose UK duo Bone Cult to make famous. In my eyes, they are criminally underrated despite being one of the most unique acts to come out in recent years. Their music, videos and live shows, with the masks and unique lighting, are all also very professionally produced, despite how obscure the band is. They deserve a lot more success and I hope they get it in future.

Great question, @Noah!

One song which I would be glad to see become super popular on all streaming platforms is “Into the Deepest Space” by the Portugal-based psychedelic rock band Astrodome:

I’m always surprised to see that Astrodome only have around 400-500 monthly listeners or so these days when I view their Spotify profile, since I’ve been listening to this song of theirs relatively often since January of last year and I think that it sounds rather amazing.

“Into the Deepest Space” is over 16 minutes long, yet it never sounds boring to me, even after having listened to it nearly 200 times according to Last.fm. Perhaps it’s the mix of dreamy clean-toned, echoing guitar chords and heavier distorted passages that keeps the song engaging to me as a listener; or perhaps it’s more about the quality of the songwriting that makes this track a compelling listen and one of my favorite “underrated” songs on Spotify.

Regardless, I’m nearly certain that if this song was trending on Spotify and other streaming platforms, that there would be many other listeners who would be glad to discover it. I also think that Astrodome deserve a greater level of popularity for their impressive music, and this hypothetical scenario would likely accomplish this by putting the band in the spotlight on streaming platforms.

Cheers!

A great lyrical display of the work it takes in relationships (new and seasoned) while also a coneying a humbleness that's necessary.

Love this! Thanks for the reminder

Great song, yeah.

And seriously I mean no offense by this but Miley Cyrus isn't exactly a hidden gem lol.

My sarcasm wanted to come out like I was talking to family or friends and say "Mmmm, who is this Miley Cyrus?" 😂 Sorry had to say it 😝

I Would like to share this one, sounds great!  Sounds a little Minneapolis

If given the opportunity to catapult a hidden gem into viral status on all streaming platforms, I'd choose "Sleep On The Floor" by The Lumineers. This track, nestled within their album "Cleopatra," encapsulates a captivating blend of heartfelt lyrics, compelling storytelling, and melodious folk-pop instrumentation. Its evocative narrative and catchy melody offer a universal appeal that deserves wider recognition, making it an ideal candidate for a global viral sensation.
