A legal issue with a library name

A legal issue with a library name

Hi,

I'd like to develop an open source library containing ClojureScript bindings for Spotify Web API called "Spojure". It is an obvious combination of the name of the service and the programming language.

Can using this name be considered trademark infringement?

In design guidelines for Spotify applications I see the following fragment:

We have a few pointers to consider when naming your app:

  • It shouldn't imply endorsement by Spotify, but suggest to users that it is “for Spotify” is acceptable.
  • It cannot begin with “Spot” or be similar to “Spotify” in sound or spelling.

I understand that an open source library is something different than Spotify application but trademark laws that apply may be similar. Is a name like "Spojure" considered to only "suggest to users that is for Spotify"?

Thanks for any help!

Piotr

The Python module Spotipy exists and the name of your library contains only the first three letters and sounds very different, so I don't think it's an issue.
