[Android][Developer] Back button not working properly when using Spotify applink

Device: LG G7, Galaxy Z-Flip 3

Operating System: Android 10

On Android, the back button does not work when you open a playlist link using a view intent and setting the calling app's package name in the extras (EXTRA_REFERRER).
I followed the instructions for intent creation mentioned on 
https://developer.spotify.com/documentation/general/guides/content-linking-guide/ 

Seems like the system nav back button does take the user back to our app, but the app's back button (top left arrow) does not - infact, it only goes back to the app's local navigation stack. This is problematic because when the user does not already have the app open(not in background) and it doesn't have a stack history ; tapping the back button doesn't do anything.
